We're offering Bohemian style camping in a 12' bell tent in the garden.
I provide 2 mattresses & bedding, a fire/BBQ outside, composting loo, cutlery, crockery, cool bag, gas ring + kettle, but NOT breakfast.
Coast - 5 miles. Train station 1.5 miles.
The bell tent is spacious and it also has a tarpaulin extension to give extra space under cover. It's set up for 2 people, although would fit another 2, if you brought mattresses & bedding. It's perfect if you have a limited budget and enjoy the great outdoors. There is a fire outside, with wood provided and it has grills to cook on too, if you feel adventurous. Help will usually be at hand if you need tips about using the fire successfully.
We have some little LED lanterns, but you may want to bring a torch too.
The composting loo uses sawdust and there is a place to wash your hands, so it's quite civilised. We have a giant plastic bowl for washing in; you put lovely warm water to stand and squat in: it's how we 'showered' when we stayed in a Kenyan village and it works a treat! You can either heat up water on the fire, or we'll provide a bucket of hot water from the kitchen.
The bell tent is in the kitchen garden which is quite private and in a corner of our 1 acre garden. There's a composting loo and water nearby and you are welcome to wander around the garden & field. There are lovely walks around the village too. There is a good corner shop in the village. We're usually around and will give you tips on what's on, etc so you can make the most of your stay.
We're building an eco house here, so we're usually around, should you need help or advice about anything. If you're interested in self-build and eco building, we'd be very happy to talk to you about it.
Our self-build is a timber framed, Hemcrete eco house. We would be happy to share our experience with interested guests, although do need to press on with the work of course!
Ideal checking in/out time is between 5pm and 10pm and up until 10.30am respectively, but call or email and we can come to a mutually agreed arrangement.
For safety reasons, smoking, cooking and any naked flames are not allowed inside the tent. Smoking is ok outside the tent, but please put butts in the pot provided. PLEASE REPORT ANY PROBLEMS/ACCIDENTS TO US BEFORE YOU LEAVE.
If you'd like to have a fire and/or BBQ, please only do so using the metal fire pit provided and dry wood that's kept under cover. Otherwise, leave the place as you found it, and have a good time! There is a glass house in the kitchen garden, so sorry, this is not suitable for children, apart from babes in arms.
The things that are most important to me are my family, although I have lots of other interests, like gardening, the environment, self-building, our local community, singing, education, the arts.....I'd like to think that I'm a people person who's welcoming and caring, although that's really for other people to say. My husband and I have been described as a bit bohemian, which is why I've used that reference in my listing.
