The Church an Art Sanctuary is a renovated rock church that was built in 1870, nestled in the beautiful Sandia Mountains. The Church can comfortably host 1-5 people. We are 5.5 miles off I-40.
The Church an Art Sanctuary is a very unique and tranquil space. Built in 1870 from rock and mud, the church was active from 1870 through the 1950s. Currently, The Church acts as a working artist space, gallery and art incubator space, offering an eclectic array of folk and recycled art.
The Church has a large bedroom, full bathroom, gallery/living space, front porch and large fenced in yard. Guests will enjoy the rural setting, peaceful surroundings, outdoor patio, grill and star filled skies. Many national forest trails are accessible right out the front door as well as mountain bike trails and rock-climbing opportunities. The Church always has many art projects in process from bottle wall building to murals.
I will be available to get you settled in, show you the ropes and answers any questions you may have about the area and offer recommendations!
The Church is nestled in the Sandia Mountains and although it may look lush and beautiful, water is PRECIOUS!! I ask that guests to be very conscientious about their water usage and treat water as though it were GOLD!!
The Church encourages it's guests to be respectful of the space, the artistic process and practice "treading lightly" - recycling, composting, conscientious water use etc.
I am the caretaker of The Church an Art Sanctuary for the foreseeable future. I did my first public showing of my art there years ago and have been friends with Autumn for 10 years. I will be staying in the house next door and using the art studio to create. I work in construction and will gladly take care of any issues that arise to make your stay as comfortable as possible.
