The Red Roof Cottage @ FireFly was originally built in the early 1980's by a couple who bought the nearly 30 acres of land from a local original Camden family and cleared several acres of it by hand. The first dwelling was a cozy & rustic 800 SF space that served as both a small barn and sleeping quarters for the couple. They spent many years here, just the two of them, planting trees, clearing land and enjoying the breathtaking views and solitude of the area. It changed hands in the early 2000s to a horse lover who commuted from Atlanta on the weekends. She added over 5 acres of paddock space and fencing, enclosed the bottom floor of the original cottage (where the tractor used to park), added a sun room, updated paint colors and had a local artist add whimsical artwork to the central seating and living area of the cottage. The horse-loving owner held on to the farm for a couple of years when the current owner made her an offer for purchase.
They quickly began a major addition and renovation that added 2 bedrooms, 1.5 baths, wash room, sun room and a large kitchen/family area. Over the years, a sitting/sun room was added upstairs as well as an additional full bath. The owner's children love the screened in pool area complete with koi pond, hot tub, slide, waterfall grotto and outdoor kitchen area with ice maker, fridge, large gas grill and stone pizza oven. In 2013, a new home was completed on the farm and the Red Roof Cottage has since been used as guest's quarters.
The Red Roof Cottage is located conveniently less than 1.5 miles from the SC Equine Park and quick and easy access to Interstate 20. Camden dining, antiques shopping, historic revolutionary park and all things Camden horse community are all within a 10 minute drive. And if you are looking for more adventure, shopping, dining and the like, Columbia is a short 30 minute drive straight over on I20!!
There is plenty of room at Firefly to park horse trailers, RVs or any other large vehicle. The farm also boasts plenty of paddock space if your travels require it.
You will be welcome in all areas of Firefly Farm. The pool and outdoor kitchen area are located adjacent to the cottage and is used by the owner's family as well. Please keep this is mind when booking. If you'd prefer some privacy in the evenings, just let us know! You are welcome to walk throughout the grounds of the property, swing beneath an old oak tree, relax in the hammock, play on the play set, grill burgers out on the grill. The choice is yours!
Our home is located on the farm a short distance from the cottage. We would be happy to answer any questions you might have or help in any way. We come and go often but our youngest is 7 so he also plays in the space often. You will find him swinging, running, riding his bike, picking in the garden and doing all the things that little boys do!
We will interact as little or as much as you'd like. Most importantly, we want you to enjoy your stay with us.
You will find convenient and plentiful parking here. If you have a horse trailer or are towing a boat, we have plenty of room to park! There is no public transportation available so a vehicle is a must. There are several roads that many bike or run/walk in the area.
PLEASE NOTE: We recently had a not-so-good experience with a guest in regards to cleanliness of the cottage upon departure. Unfortunately, we have been advised to now charge a cleaning fee. This is done in an effort to ensure all of our guests are met with a space that is the most clean and comfortable possible.
-- The cottage is on a farm which includes animals. We have horses as well as 4 rescue dogs and rescue cat who have full run of the property (nearly 30 acres). The horses are in a fenced paddock space. They are friendly and will not bother you. However, if you do not care for animals, this may not be a good fit for your stay. We do not lock our dogs up for our guests. Just like should be the case in all situations, all children MUST be supervised at all times around the animals.
-- The Red Roof Cottage will accommodate and IS LIMITED to 9 persons only. It might be possible to have an infant or toddler in addition to the 9 but please notify the host first.
-- We ask that upon finalizing your reservation you provide the complete name and age of all overnight guests who will be staying in the cottage. If your guest's info is not provided, they are not permitted to stay overnight at FireFly Farm.
-- Only registered overnight guests are permitted to use the pool. If you plan to have visitors on the farm, you must have permission from the host first. Unregistered guests are NOT permitted to stay overnight on or in the property.
-- If there is no one enjoying the pool, we ask that the waterfall be turned off. The motor for the falls is not designed to be running for hours at a time. Please keep this in mind as you enjoy the space.
-- Our farm is a quiet and relaxing respite and we ask that there be no loud parties or events on the premises.
-- If the AC is on, please ensure doors and windows remain closed. This includes the French doors that open to the pool. We understand it's convenient to keep the door open and easily walk back and forth; however, it is VERY pricey to cool (or heat) the SC outdoors as well as the cottage. I will likely be in the pool area daily to feed the fish and water the plants and if the door is open, we will kindly ask you to close. Thank you for your consideration and understanding.
-- If you have friends or family who will be visiting you at Firefly Farm during your stay, we ask that you notify us first. For safety and security reasons, it is very important to us to know who will be on the farm at any time. Additionally, ONLY guests registered with us to sleep over night in the cottage are permitted to use the pool. We sometimes make exceptions to this rule but it is imperative that you PLEASE notify us first. We appreciate your consideration and adherence to our house rules.
-- We welcome families, couples, singles, professionals, etc. We just ask that you respect the quiet and solitude of the space with no loud music and/or partying.
-- We ask that you keep your surroundings tidy and clean up after yourselves just as you would in your own home. There are cleaning products under the kitchen sink as well as in all bathrooms. The hall closet houses a broom, mop and vacuum cleaner.
-- We want you to be comfortable and enjoy your stay at Firefly Farm. We ask that you treat our home like you would your own. Clean up after yourself, put things back where you found them and HAVE FUN!
-- Smoking is permitted outside only and we ask that you dispose of all smoking materials appropriately.
-- Please do not build a fire in the bottom of the pizza oven. This is for storage of clean and dry wood only! Yeah, someone actually did that!
-- Please do not make adjustments to the pool equipment. We do NOT heat the pool and ask that you not make adjustments in an effort to do so. If we learn that you have taken action to heat the pool, you will be asked to leave the premises. Yeah...someone actually did that too--all 30,000 gallons!!
-- If you use the outdoor grill, please clean all food debris off both the inside and outside of grill.
-- Please do not leave any perishable food in the refrigerator upon departure. Please wipe up any food spills in the refrigerator.
-- Please wipe down both the inside and outside of the microwave.
-- If the stove or oven are used, please be sure to clean up any food debris.
-- Please do not leave any dirty dishes, silverware or cookware in the sink. Either hand wash and return to the cabinet or place in dishwasher and run before you depart.
-- Please consider the impact of excess linen usage. We ask that you kindly consider reusing bath towels rather than using a clean towel each time.
-- Please bring your own beach towels for pool use. We ask that our provided house towels NOT be used in the pool area. Again, we ask that there be consideration when using towels we have made available.
-- Enjoy your stay!

I'm a busy working, retired military officer and mom of three: 19, 17 and 7. I have an eclectic taste in many things but a few of my "loves" are colored glass, art work, decorating, gardening, music (Tony Bennett, Sinatra, Prince, Allison Krause, Diana Krall to name a few), white wine, an ice cold beer on a hot day, great food and friends.
Firefly Farm is located in central SC, right outside the cozy historic town of Camden. Camden is home of the annual spring Carolina Cup steeplechase race, sometimes called the "biggest outdoor cocktail party in the south".
I have traveled extensively across the globe my entire life with my Air Force dad and continued during my own 22-year Air Force career. I love to travel off the beaten path and have been very fortunate to visit many wonderful and interesting places during my military travels. Some of my most memorable destinations are Baghdad, Misawa Japan, Germany and Mallorca. My dad was also career military so I have moved and traveled my entire life. I am the youngest (and only girl) of three and mom and dad have been married 55 years and are still going strong!
I retired from the AF in 2006 and decided to plant some roots for my children while they were in school.
Five things I can't live without: My children, coffee, flowers, a good wine and--I hate to admit it--my phone! :-)
