On entering the apartment you are greeted by gleaming parquet floors, floor- to-ceiling windows letting out onto gracious balconies, pale ochre-hued walls and lovely, subdued furniture and rugs. This is the place for the most discerning traveler...
If you're not the average tourist, getting away from it all in Paris is not that easy. One New York songwriter I know has met with enough commercial success she no longer needs to ask, "Combien ça coût, s'il vous plait?" but still gets her inspiration by hanging out anonymously with lesser mortals. Her song, "Undercover in Paris," begins this way:
Take me away from this crowded café to a place with no name Far from the fray on the Champs Elysées, we can play a private game…
You play that private game pretty well yourself. You've stayed at the Ritz, the George V, the Lutetia, the Shangri-La. But this time, it's not about Paris -- it's about you. You wintered in Singapore and Puerto Vallarta, spent most of the fall and spring at your place in New York. Now Paris is calling. But you need a place with no name, where only the people you want to find you can find you... The rest is you, and Paris.
This sumptuous apartment is in the Parisian equivalent of a gated community, but so much more tasteful and understated. Don't be fooled by the unassuming gate off the street. Its quiet power lies in the fact that it's the only way into this secret world of houses designed with the utmost taste and class. On the other side of that gate, there's no traffic allowed. As a resident of this private enclave, you'll have beautiful paths in which to stroll undisturbed by the hustle and bustle on the other side. Once sprung, however, Paris awaits, with taxis, the Métro, restaurants, bistros all within arm's length.
You've already left the noise behind as you strolled through the hedge-lined private park leading to your residence. On entering the apartment you are greeted by gleaming parquet floors, floor- to-ceiling windows letting out onto gracious balconies, pale ochre-hued walls and lovely, subdued furniture and rugs.
The enormous salon features a wall of windows looking past wrought iron railings onto quiet green. The entry foyer doubles as a library, brimming with books. You could say there's space to breathe, to relax… a slice of Parisian heaven on earth. Maybe you can have some of those chats you've been meaning to have with your business partner, who's been here in Paris since college. Let him come to you for once.
What you won't let him use (or maybe even see) is your room-size walk-in shower with water massage jets all around. That's all yours. You might let him in to see the huge eat-in French country kitchen... might even let him cut up some saucisson for your apéros.
There are two elegant, balconied bedrooms, and two full baths. The private space is luxuriously appointed with understated grandeur – 800-thread count sheets, matching curtains and wallpaper, just the right low lighting.
This is the place for the most discerning traveler... that would be you.
