Not only a great place to stay to get an authentic experience of Havana, but Diosbel, Barbara, Hector and Anna made the stay extra special. They were all so helpful in giving good tips, arranging taxis and just generally being available for questions and requests. The rooms are clean, comfortable and air conditioned, which was wonderful in the heat of late July. The location is in old Havana and close to many tourist attractions. You can walk to many places of interest in 10 minutes or so. I would highly recommend staying here.
We had a fantastic time staying at this location. Breakfast on the terrace in the morning while the city was waking up. Fresh fruit, omelet, coffee, fruit juice, bread, jam, butter, and a bit of meat and cheese. One morning we even had a ham and cheese sandwich. The rooms are nice and beds are comfortable with air conditioning. The A/C was a life saver in the mid day heat. Recommend a siesta 12-2pm with A/C on! No WiFi, but don't expect to get that in Havana unless you want an expensive hotel. It is about a mile to walk into the tourist part of town. For me that was perfect, got to walk down more residential parts of town and see life. We would get to the tourist side of town and see all of the sites. There were plenty of pedicabs and taxis available to get to town but we elected to always walk. One of the huge advantages was that Barbara, who was Diosbel's mother, was able to arrange a private car for any location that we wanted to go. The driver was absolutely great and was able to help us make decisions on where to go. We said we wanted to go to the beach with no more information than that he took us to the nicest beach I have ever been to. Coconuts with rum in them, your own umbrella and chair, clear water, lunch and dinner served to you. Did not even have to get up. They also took us out to the Tropicana one night and picked us up at 1 am. Great not having to worry about getting gouged by a taxi driver. They offered to take us out to a plantation outside of Havana; we initially agreed but then changed our minds last minute as we decided our stay was not long enough (and a bit of sunburn from the beach!) They said it was no problem and accommodated us. Super nice about our changing plans. We asked for a place to get Ropa Veja (shredded beef dish) and they walked us down a couple blocks from them and took us inside one of the cafeterias and ordered for us. It cost ~$1.50 a person and was more food that I could have ever eaten. The cafeterias were something outside of my comfort zone but having Hector take us and order for us was perfect. It was great to see life in Havana from multiple angles. Barbara recommended plenty of sites to see and places to check out. Had a big map in the common area marked with stuff to do and see. There were some guide books available in the common area too. If you are a traveler, if you want to see the sites, if you want to see both sides of the city: you should stay here.
