Stay in a beautiful and private 9 x 10-foot little house surrounded by a lovely garden. Enjoy the comforts of sleeping indoors in a cozy loft, and showering outdoors beneath a garden canopy.
Winter Note: The house is heated and cozy and includes a half bath. The hot shower is outdoors under a lush garden canopy. Guests enjoy staying in the little house throughout the year, and the outdoor shower is noted as a highlight in many reviews, even during the winter months.
The little house is a private 9 x 10 foot cottage in a garden setting. It was custom built by a local artist/design-builder with eye for detail. It is a very small space with two skylights, French doors, and casement windows that open out into the garden, giving it an open-air feel. Natural linen curtains allow light in, and provide additional privacy (note: curtains are not shown in the photos). The main house is about twenty-five feet away.
The loft has a dreamy European Sleep Works natural latex/wool mattress (size: double bed, comfortable for two). For storage, there is an empty dresser/vanity as well as a closet to hang clothing. Recessed lights can be adjusted with a dimmer. An electric heater warms the little house in winter and is set on a timer so the space is comfortable for your evening return.
A sliding door, which tucks behind the bookshelf, provides privacy in the small half bath. The half bath features a hand blown glass sink set into a stone countertop, a toilet, and corner cabinet for storing toiletries. (Note: There is hot water in the bathroom sink. It is a single lever design, and as you turn the handle the water temperature changes from cold to hot.)
There is a private, hot outdoor shower located just outside the little house beneath a tree fern and bamboo canopy. Eco-friendly soaps and shampoo/conditioner are provided, as the shower drains into the garden. Towels and robes are provided.
There is no kitchen, but there is a small refrigerator, a toaster oven, and an electric kettle. There is an outdoor utility sink with hot water for washing dishes.
In the room, I provide a selection of organic herbal and caffeinated teas with an electric kettle. There's also a coffee press. I provide coffee along with organic milk or half & half, if requested.
Outside the room is a patio with two wooden chairs for enjoying the garden space. Alongside the patio is a water feature, which birds visit all day long. Enjoy your morning coffee or tea while hummingbirds come within feet to bathe in the basalt birdbath.
The garden is an oasis in an urban setting. During the day, you may hear ambient noise coming from the park (children playing, sometimes music - especially on weekends during the summer months), and the occasional barking of a neighboring dog. I'd like my guests to come knowing what to expect and to enjoy their stay to the fullest. If you are looking for a lovely place to lay your head in between Bay Area adventures, this is the place for you.
There is no off-street parking, but street parking is fairly easy. Due to increased park use on weekends, parking may not be available directly in front of the house on Sat/Sun, but you shouldn't have to go further than a block or around the corner to find a spot.
Wifi is available.
The cottage and garden are for paid guests only. If you want to have a close family member or friend over, please ask first.
I live in the main house and am available by text, phone, or in person for questions and recommendations. You will see me coming and going, mostly on my bicycle. Guests are free to be as independent and private as they wish.
No pets allowed.
Please respect quiet hours after 10 p.m.
No smoking inside the house.
I am a fifth grade teacher in my tenth year of teaching. I grew up in New York and have been living in the Bay Area for eighteen years. I love to work in the garden, to envision a space and see it come to fruition.
I live an active life outside of teaching. I ride my bicycle nearly every day - to work, to Crossfit, to the Farmers' market, to my favorite coffee shops, on Bart, up hills, over bridges! I love adventure and being on a bicycle makes me smile.
At least one weekend per month, I am off sailing in the Bay on an Express 37 as a part of a race crew. I always bake before the regattas and my crew loves when I show up with the cookies!
My day-to-day lifestyle is eco-conscious and simple. I make choices as a consumer to minimize pollution and landfill trash, I compost and recycle my waste, fertilize the garden with organic materials, and choose my bicycle over the car more often than not.
I am new to airbnb and I'm excited to see how my life changes when I open my home to travelers. I am also looking forward to being a guest and experiencing the personal touches that make an airbnb stay a fun and insightful way to travel.
