Bluestack Barn is located in the quaint little village of Mountcharles, on the trail of the 'Wild Atlantic Way'. It is the ideal base for daytrips to many of Donegal's famous landmarks, e.g. 'Slieve League' and 'Glenveigh' National Park.
Set in a traditional Irish barn dating back to 1874, Bluestack Barn has recently been renovated with a tastefully eclectic & cosy interior.
The walls of the lounge & bedroom are awash with works of art; showing our love of fine art photography.
Outside, guests can enjoy the tranquillity of our gardens, and there is space aplenty for children to safely play & roam around.
A fully furnished loft apartment (39 square meters / 420 square feet), covering the entire 1st floor of a traditional Irish Barn built in 1874.
PS: There are two bicycles available for our guests, on request.
Bluestack Barn is a stand-alone property in our back garden; we will always be around for help and advice. Maps, guidebooks & leaflets are available.
A child's cot, high chair etc. (incl. child's toys, books etc.) are available on request. There is a varied choice of books, board games, and DVDs available for our guests.
Washer & dryer in the utility shed on the ground floor.
NB: whilst Bluestack Barn is a child friendly place it is not suitable for guests with walking difficulties, as the entrance to the property consists of uneven stone steps. Bluestack Barn was hewn out of the rock-face when built in 1874.
No pets. Smoking only allowed on the balconies. Please treat the loft as you would your own; and leave it as you found it.
We are your hosts, Marcel & Martha. Over a decade ago we moved from Holland to Ireland, and made our home in a traditional Irish cottage in this quaint little village of Mountcharles. Marcel works as a translator of Icelandic literature into Dutch. He also adapts, writes, and translates plays for theaters in The Netherlands & Belgium. Martha works as a proofreader/editor. She also translates Marcel's plays into English (and when time allows, she works on her own writings).
We have three children; two of whom have flown the nest. They live & work abroad. We are also the proud grandparents of a grandchild (who lives abroad).
Over the years we have traveled around the globe (some of the fine art photos on the walls of Bluestack Barn were taken on our travels), so we know all about offering our guests a cosy & comfortable place to stay.
