This listing is for a self-contained, lower-level, studio apartment. The apartment is located in Woodbridge, a quiet, safe and tree-lined neighborhood, just 1.5 miles from downtown. The studio has its own entrance, open-plan living space, kitchenette and bathroom. It is spacious, at around 650 sq ft, newly renovated and furnished with unique and hand-built features.
This listing is for a self-contained studio apartment with open-plan living space, kitchenette and separate bathroom. The apartment has its own entrance, and access to a shared backyard.
We have been hosting on AirBnB for 5 years, and have over a hundred 5* reviews. We were rated the best AirBnB listing in Detroit in the Metro Times in June 2015. If you'd like an AirBnB experience in which the host really knows what they are doing, look no further!
The studio apartment occupies the whole lower level of the apartment. It is completely separate from the apartment upstairs, and self-contained - with its own entrance, living area, kitchenette (hot plate, microwave, kettle, fridge, sink) and bathroom. There is a full-sized bed, sofa and wardrobe so you can put away your belongings and really settle in. You do share walls and ceilings with the apartment upstairs, so we really do need guests to be considerate of noise traveling to the other unit (anything above normal conversation level is very audible in the upstairs living room/kitchen), just as our tenants upstairs are considerate of noise traveling to yours.
The apartment is in a converted turn-of-the-century brick building. We completed a top-to-toe renovation in March 2014, so its a modern and luxurious conversion. The apartment is accessed via the shared backyard - which guests are welcome to use. In the link to the 'street view' you can see the building (red brick with yellow and green woodwork) with yard and garages to the back. Our apartment is the first floor rear and basement. There are long term tenants that live in the first floor apartment, and the studio is located on the lower level. The two apartments share a utility and laundry area, but are otherwise totally separate.
The apartment is in Woodbridge, a historic, quiet and safe neighborhood of Detroit, located just west of Wayne State campus and Midtown, about 2 miles from Downtown. It is located minutes from all freeways, and 20 minutes from DTW international airport. There is ample street parking around the house.
The studio is 10 minutes by foot from the neighborhood bar for local beers and eats, 15 minutes on foot to Midtown, and a short drive or bike ride Downtown to dozens of bars and restaurants, the stadiums, riverfront and Eastern Market. We have bikes to rent for those that want to explore on 2 wheels!
Please feel free to email with any questions.

We provide all linens and towels, and bathroom supplies. There is a kitchenette in the studio that is equipped with all the utensils you need to make simple meals. Guests are welcome to help themselves to any cooking items they find in the kitchen. We make sure its kept stocked with tea, coffee, olive oil and basic spices.
The studio is completely separate from the apartment upstairs, in which we have long-term tenants staying. While we live out in Utah, we make sure to always be available by email and phone to answer questions when needed (please bear in mind we are 2 hours behind Detroit!). We have local maps and guide books available in the apartment for you to use.
This studio is located in the basement of our apartment, which is in a 110 year old building. Old buildings creak and noise travels. You *can* hear people moving around upstairs, so if you are sensitive to noise, please don't book this space (or bring earplugs!). We have long-term tenants living in the apartment upstairs, who keep pretty normal waking hours, so the house is usually quiet 11pm-8am. Please bear in mind that sound travels both ways - you can hear them and they can hear you - so please be mindful that anything above normal conversation level is very audible to anyone upstairs. Our tenants are mindful of noise traveling to your space, and we expect our AirBnB guests to do the same.
There is a locked door between the upstairs and downstairs units and we keep the spaces totally separate, sharing only laundry facilities.
It is really important that our guests read the instructions provided. This guide will answer most questions that you might have, and gives you important information about check-in and check-out. Our cleaner lives off-site, and has a 2 hour time window to clean and prepare the studio between guests. It is therefore very important that guests check out at noon (unless otherwise arranged ahead of time) and put the linens and towels on to wash before departing. If this doesn't happen, and the cleaner has to make an additional trip, THE COST OF THE ADDITIONAL CLEAN WILL BE DEDUCTED FROM YOUR DEPOSIT ($25).
Other than this, we simply remind you that this is our home, so we ask that people are respectful of it. Please leave the apartment clean and tidy, just as you found it. There is quite a bit of sound that travels between the two apartments, so this is absolutely not the place for a late night loud party.

I am a 35 year old from London, who somehow wound up living in Utah. I am a psychologist by training and am a University lecturer.
I was introduced to AirBnB around five years ago, so am an experienced guest, and I was convinced by my hosts on a trip to Hawaii a few years ago that it was time to do my part and turn host! I returned home and fortunately was able to convince Chris, my husband, that it was a good plan, so, here we are...
We hosted dozens of guests in the home we renovated in Detroit, and while we have now moved to Utah, we continue to offer a studio apartment on the lower level of our Detroit home, to guests. We are super keen to spread the word that Detroit is a fantastic place to live, and we think our little corner of the city showcases it pretty well! We now have a cottage that we offer up to guests in St George, Utah. We live on site, in a self-contained unit.
I also act as manager for my Mum's listing in London. She isn't online enough to be a responsive host, so I'm running the show for her with respect to bookings/inquiries etc. She has a beautiful flat in Central London that she uses only for work during the week. Its free most weekends and for the whole of the summer. Its really a fantastic place from which to explore London.
So, please book away - I look forward to welcoming you into my homes (Detroit/Utah) or corresponding my way to a smooth check in for you in London!
