Jawi House & Painter is our much-loved modern bed and breakfast homestay in the center of Ubud. We have three private, spotlessly clean, beautifully decorated and newly built rooms on the upper levels of our home (please see our other listings).
This light, airy, newly built room is on the top floor of our home (level two) and looks out over the rooftops of Ubud. It’s a spacious and comfortable room that has been decorated with much love and attention. It has hand carved Balinese furniture, a good-sized balcony with table and chairs, a walk in wardrobe and ensuite with a bath / shower, a comfortable king size bed and coffee table. It’s a picturesque place to rest, relax and enjoy the village views.
- Free daily breakfast with a range of choices (fresh fruit, eggs, pancakes, toast, tea and coffee)
- Rooms cleaned daily

Here’s a nice blog post about us:
"...Then when you are back in Bali and hit Ubud, you should stay with Jawi House and Painter. You get a degree of loveliness which is hilariously superior to the other places along Monkey Forest Road, a few of whom were offering me discount rates of $110 US for tattered old rooms in their oversized resorts. I know you can get accommodation much cheaper than this (we stayed in another place for $12/night on our last trip) but for what you get, this place was lovely– air con and fan, bath, a sitting area, a welcome drink (I love Indonesian welcome drinks, yummy), free wireless, and brekky. And down a quiet laneway off the main drag. We were sorry to stay only one night, because they were so awesome, and we had that experience that you have pretty regularly in Indonesia, when someone is so delightful and wonderful to you and you wish you could just apologise directly for not being able to personally sustain their excellent business model, which probably goes largely unappreciated because they don’t have a very big sign, nor an advertising budget. And please (I say in imaginary monologue) don’t stop asking people if they were just ‘walking walking’ a la the way one would say ‘jalan jalan’ in Bahasa, because that is really quite adorable and somehow more accurate in tone to describe the kind of meandering one does in Ubud, than the singular version. So keep it up Jawi House and Painter."

Our home is located in the heart of Ubud on Monkey Forest Road (Jl. Wenara Wana). It’s tucked away down a laneway behind the street front. Access is via our courtyard with a staircase up to level one or two. Your room has it’s own private, lockable door and you can come go as you please.
We can have as little or as much interaction as you like. You can call or sms me anytime you need something. I am usually at home or in the area so I’m close by to give you advice or help with anything you need. I also enjoy sharing our local culture and customs if you’re interested in learning more about the Balinese life.
In the evenings from this room you can sometimes here distant music (which finishes at midnight) from the restaurant on the street front. It is slight and doesn’t bother people generally, but if you're a very light sleeper or not used to ambient neighbourhood sounds, book into our Garden or Retreat rooms downstairs. However, you will miss out on the lovely rooftop view and excellent star gazing at night!
We can arrange the following for you:
- Airport transfer IDR300.000
- Motorcycle / scooter hire – you can park in our courtyard
- Private tours of Bali
- Telkomsel SimCard - local card for cheap call/text and you can also access 3G internet at good prices
- Check in time: 2.00pm
- Check out time: 12.00pm
- Smoking not allowed
