Peaceful with GREAT VIEWS ACROSS THE WATER! Enjoy the beauty of nature on the Wisconsin River and Lake Wisconsin in this rustic, yet cozy river/lake cottage. Relax with friends or family in the hot tub after a day canoeing or kayaking or skiing. We are pet friendly for well behaved dogs with a $20/night pet fee per dog.
Quietwater Cottage is conveniently located on the Lake Wisconsin waterfront midway between Madison and the Wisconsin Dells, just 1.5 hours from Milwaukee, 3 hours from downtown Chicago, and 2 hrs from Dubuque. This cottage is located next door to the Island View Hideaway and is operated by the same owners.
Guests have access to the entire house and property including a big deck, a hot tub and small infrared sauna, pier and river (seasonal of course), and yard. You'll be able to use our small rowboat and 15' aluminum canoe to paddle around the islands in the slow moving river.
Our rental manager, Ron, will be able to help you with any needs that you might have during your stay. He just lives across the street and down a bit from the cottage.
Please make yourself at home here as we’d like your stay to be as comfortable and enjoyable as it can possibly be. Please make use of whatever you can find here including:
TV: We have a 37” LCD HDTV with home theater system in the living room. The TV is connected to cable. Use the “input” button on the TV remote to select either “TV” for cable or “Composite #1” for DVD (while the DVD player is in the DVD mode).
Home Theater System:
The remote control allows you to toggle between these modes.
Wireless Internet: Be sure to bring a computer if you want to keep up with your emails or get a little work done. It can also be helpful when looking up activities in the area.
Dining Room Table Expansion: There are 2 “leaves” built in on each side to expand the table for more seating. These slide in under the main tabletop. Also several folding chairs are available in the bedroom closet for your use.
Gas Fireplace: To use the gas fireplace, tilt down the small grill on the bottom above the hearth to get to the controls. Push in adjustment dial set on “pilot” and hold for 20-30 seconds, then push in the “light” button. Once lit, adjust heat but please do not turn the dial past #3 as it gets quite hot and make sure to turn it off when you leave. The fan switch should be on automatic. The fireplace will be disabled during the summer months.
Hot Tub: To use the hot tub, flip the left half of the cover back across the right half, then grab the metal lift bar and tip the folded cover up into its vertical position to the side. You will figure out the controls, each pump one has 2 settings. Also a switch for the light. Have fun experimenting! Most people like the temperature between 100 and 102, some a little higher, some a little cooler. Please be sure to cover the hot tub after using it and please do not sit on or place heavy or damaging objects on the hot tub cover.
Sauna: To use the sauna allow it to warm up for 30-40 minutes. It is a infrared heating system so much of the heat comes from sitting next to the infrared heaters, rather than the entire room heating up in a traditional Finnish sauna. To activate, hit the power button then the timer inside the unit. It starts at 90 minutes and will turn off automatically if you don’t turn it off. In case the GFCI has popped check the reset button on the outlet that it is plugged into on the deck.
Fire Pit: There is a fire ring down near the water’s edge. It is available for you to have a camp fire. Sit and watch the sunset and cook dinner or roast marshmallows. Any wood in the fire ring when you arrive, plus a big armload of firewood from near the white shed is included with rent. Renters are asked to bring their own firewood or purchase from local sources once their complimentary wood is burned. Do keep in mind that there are some state restrictions on long distance (especially intrastate) transport of fire wood. Locals sell firewood for cheap so please help prevent the spread of pests by complying with state rules on firewood.
First Aid Supplies: There is a small first aid kid in the bathroom cabinets. Feel free to use any supplies that you need during your stay. Hopefully, you won’t need any!
Bird Feeders: There are many wonderful birds in the area and we try to keep the bird feeders loaded with food. If you are staying for more than a few days and like to watch the birds you may wish to bring see and you may certainly feel free to fill the suet, hummingbird or seed feeder. Look for suet in the freezer. The best mixture for hummingbirds is 1 part sugar to 4 parts water, by volume.
Cleaning: The cottage was cleaned before your stay and will be ready for you with clean sheets on the beds, vacuumed carpets, etc. If you’d like to tidy up during your stay feel free to use the vacuum cleaner in the closet behind the furnace or any of the other cleaning supplies. Please call Ron or I ASAP if you feel that the cottage was not clean when you arrived.
Pets: Owners are responsible for cleaning up after their pets. There is a pet waste bag dispenser to the left at the corner of the cottage (located so the renters next door can also access it) that you are welcome to use. Also, a pooper scooper is usually hanging below the deck for yard clean-up. Feel free to bring your own water and food bowls.
Fish Cleaning: If you are cleaning fish on the property we ask that you double bag the entrails before placing them into the trash. Since trash pickup is on Monday, please let Ron know if you think they may begin to smell before trash is scheduled to be picked up.
Garbage & Recycling: Garbage pick up is on Monday, however bins must be moved to the far side of the street for pickup. Once the collection has been made on Monday, please pull bins back up next to the house to the right of the front door. You can recycle cardboard, glass, aluminum, paper . . . the usual items. Pick up will be off by one day after a holiday weekend.
Guest Journal: We hope you will take a minute to jot down a note about your stay at Quietwater in the journal you will find in the living room. It’s been a pleasure getting to know everyone through phone and email conversations (and even a few in person!). We’d love for you to send us a digital photo of your family/friends during your vacation. There is also a “guest review” option on the internet site where you found our home ((SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN), (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) etc.).
