My husband and I stayed at Susan's place on Lake Owasco for our third wedding anniversary over the summer solstice, and it was absolutely perfect. Kitchen and sundries were beyond well stocked, and you just can't compete with the ambiance of the house. Susan has quite cleverly blended many treasures obtained during her travels to far off lands with beautiful antique furniture and other objects to create an atmosphere that is simultaneously both chic and relaxing. We took advantage of everything the house had to offer: the pellet stove fireplace, the decks, the outdoor kitchen, the two-person jacuzzi tub, the canoe, the fire pit, the dock, the yard—and everything worked flawlessly. The house was immaculate and the beds were super comfy. Susan provided all kinds of helpful literature about the area, an endless amount of firewood, exactly the right amount of bottled water (to compensate for the tap water which one may or may not like), and was sweet enough to start us off with a lovely bottle of Bully Hill red wine and delicious chocolates to kick off our long anniversary weekend!
The surrounding area was nice and quiet, the neighbors were friendly but respectful of our privacy, and the nearby towns provided the perfect amount of entertainment (e.g. breweries, wineries, restaurants, parks, etc.) to keep us occupied without being overwhelmed. Although we could have instead chosen to never leave Susan's house during our entire 5 day stay and we still would have been perfectly content, rain or shine.
We've spent a lot of time in various parts of the Finger Lakes region, but this was our first trip to Owasco and it quickly won us over as our favorite lake. Susan was a very thoughtful, knowledgeable, and communicative hostess, and a delight to chat with, especially about travel. Her house in Owasco has now become my "happy place" in my mind, and my husband and I honestly cannot wait to return.
