Salt Box is a newly remodeled/newly furnished mid-century modern home offering stunning water views of Saratoga Passage and the Olympic Mountains with deeded beach access.

In late 2021, Salt Box was completely remodeled top to bottom with new flooring, cabinetry, countertops, appliances, paint, furniture, fixtures and much more. This stylish mid-century modern home is clean, comfortable and situated in an idyllic beach community.

Both the layout and elevated location give you beautiful views as well as a private and romantic get-away-from-it-all feel. The cottage is less than a 5-minute walk to our residential beach. Two seasonal single kayaks are available during the summers for paddling around the island.

Salt Box is adorned with a majestic brick wood burning fireplace as it's architectural focal point. The living room is laid out so you can take in the views, fireplace and 50 inch TV. HBO Max, Disney+, Paramount+ and Prime Video are included streaming services. A turntable with records, a plethora of board and card games, and 2 Echo Dots will provide hours of entertainment. A tripod with a pair of astronomy binoculars are perched by the sliding door for views of passing vessels, stars and whales.

A portable dining table and chairs for 2 can be moved anywhere in the house. Dine in front of the living room sliding glass doors for the views or next to the fireplace for a little firelight ambience.

The kitchen is completely renovated with quartz countertops, new cabinetry and all new stainless steel appliances. Whether you're whipping up a 4 course meal or honing your mixology skills, this kitchen has about everything you could need. There's a second sliding glass door that leads right out to the deck for easy access to the outdoor patio table or barbecue grill.

The bedroom is equipped with a king size bed - Thuma bed frame and a 14 inch memory foam mattress. Silky soft 600 thread count sheets and plush bedding will keep you cozy and warm. A dedicated work desk and chair look out onto the yard. Strong cable internet is provided with download speeds up to 100 mbps for those on a workcation. There are two additional twin air mattresses (plus bedding) in the master closet.

The bathroom has a tub/shower combo with new fixtures, tile and flooring. It's just across the hall from the bedroom.

The back yard is partially fenced and ideal for dogs (see details regarding dogs below) and kids. The front deck is where it's at though. An outdoor patio set, barbecue and recessed lighting make for a comfy place to dine al fresco and take in some of our amazing sunsets.

Salt Box is less than a 5 minute walk to our community beach. We have deeded beach access where you can do a bit of beachcombing or kayaking.

The house has a mini split in the living room which provides both heat and A/C. The bedroom has a built in electric wall heater and the bathroom has an electric baseboard heater. An additional portable electric radiator heater is also available to move around as you see fit.

Dog friendly with an additional $60 pet fee per pup. (Sorry, no cats.) Please let me know if you'll be bringing any pets at the time of booking. Please note that the Airbnb pet fee will not generate a correct calculation for more than 1 pet. We will send a separate $60 request for each additional pet. Please obtain prior approval from me if you plan to bring more than 2 pets.

A starter supply of hand soap, dish soap, dishwasher detergent, laundry detergent, sponge, toilet paper and paper towels are included. Guests also have access to cleaning supplies.

Please bring your own toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, body soap, toothpaste, etc.)

The check-in and check-out times are usually firm - especially during the summer.

Madrona Beach is on the west side of the island where the sunsets are especially beautiful. The neighborhood started out as a resort area for cabins and camping. It's now a cute and vibrant community with a relaxed vibe. Some properties still feature the original beach cottages from a bygone era.

The Camano Island Yacht Club is just up the street and provides a number of activities and summer events for both members and the community. Join up with other kayakers at the club or check out one of their public events.

Take a walk on the beach or launch the kayak and check out all the passing vessels, whales, otters, sea lions, orcas and eagles. Or, do a little beachcombing as Madrona Beach offers some of the best areas for that on the island. If you enjoy agate hunting or rockhounding, our local beach has an abundance of agates, jasper, jade, petrified wood and more.

Clams, crabs and fish are abundant here. Seasons, limits, and methods for catching crabs vary by season and location. The Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife has detailed information on their website. There are more than 40 public clam and oyster beaches on Whidbey and Camano Islands. Washington's Department of Fish and Wildlife maintains an interactive map and list of the locations along with seasons and other regulations.

Lastly, Madrona Beach has a fun neighborhood tradition. If you hear a bell ringing somewhere close by, one of the local residents has spotted a whale(s).

I've worked for almost 30 years in property management including managing my own personal investment properties. 15 of those years have also been spent managing vacation rental properties. So, buying vacation homes on San Juan Island and Camano Island were no-brainers when we were afforded the opportunity.

I love everything about the Pacific Northwest - the beer, weather, forests, rivers, ocean, people (about in that order). My wife (aka co-host Kim) and I first bought Due West and later Salt Box as we especially love the islands of the PNW, and visit them whenever we get the chance. We're happy to share our homes and hope guests get to enjoy them as much as we do.
