History with modern conveniences. A hidden gem!

My cousin got married this past weekend at one of the many vineyards in the area and my family and I chose to stay at the Old Peddlers house. We knew very little about the area and it seemed to be quaint, reasonably priced and situated somewhat close to where we wanted to be. What we found when we got there was nothing short of incredible. Tom and his wife completely transformed an abandoned, rotting old house into a completely gorgeous home, complete with modern comforts while retaining the history and character of the old house. Tom was very clear and concise in communicating the necessary details well in advance of our stay And was nearby should any issues have arrived. (They did not) Tom surprised us with a dozen farm fresh eggs, a thorough historical tour of the house and property and dining recommendations in nearby Scottsville. We only stayed for 2 nights, but the smokehouse food was very tasty and the James River brewery is worth a visit as well. The property and surrounding area is quite secluded with no cell service to speak of shortly after leaving town, but don't let this dissuade you from staying here! The Old Peddler's house is truly a gem and we will most definitely be staying there again!

This house was perfect for a weekend getaway. It really was beyond charming and interesting. We brought our own food and had a great time making dinner (which was easy, because the kitchen is fully stocked) and sitting together and the huge farm table. It's a hop, skip, and jump from tons of wineries. We explored some of the property and really enjoyed sitting on the porch with our morning coffee. The house has three bathrooms, which was a huge convenience for a party of 7 ladies. All around, it's a wonderful spot for a secluded mini or extended vacation.

We cannot say enough about Tom & Alicia as hosts, or about the Old Peddler's House!! We chose this property as a destination for our "babymoon" trip. It was also close to the wedding we were attending in Scottsville. Tom & Alicia were so friendly & helpful. Tom met us the evening we were checking in, and drove us back to the House. The House is a mile back from the road, on a bumpy unpaved lane. He gave us a wonderful tour complete with the history of the house - which is amazing! He also provided some farm fresh eggs for us and we were so thankful. They were delicious! The House itself is spectacular. The mix of old and modern made for such a unique experience. Alicia did such a great job furnishing the House. You have a fully stocked kitchen complete with all the cookware and glassware, etc you may need. They even had a crockpot and a blender! They thought of everything. The upstairs bedrooms are so quirky and unique. A tad on the small side but we didn't mind. Our favorite thing to do was enjoy our morning coffee on the front porch in the rocking chairs, while our dog explored the front yard. The yard is HUGE and secluded enough that our city dwelling dog could be off leash the whole time. I think she wanted us to leave her at the House when we left, she had such a great time! Saturday Tom & Alicia were kind enough to let us wander around their farm - I highly recommend this! We took our dog down to the creek on their property, saw the cows, the pond, and the red barn they are building. One of our favorite things was just chatting with these awesome hosts - I wish we could have done it more! We also walked Zoey back behind the house to the creek. She had such a fantastic trip. We really hope to come back and enjoy this House and these hosts more, after the baby is born. We cannot say THANK YOU enough for this wonderful experience!
