Rent a fully furnished one bedroom half of a duplex on the west bank of the Willamette River in Eugene. Suitable for a couple, this quiet guest house is located on the Ruth Bascomb Riverbank Trail for walking and bicycling.(website hidden)

The West Bank Guest House is a quiet one or two person rental, offered by a retired contractor. It's a recently remodeled and fully furnished half of a duplex in a park setting. The one large bedroom has a king-sized bed and a walk-in closet with a washer and dryer. The living room and office are separated with converging pocket doors that can be left open for spaciousness or closed for privacy. There is no cable T.V. but there is a Roku system that allows guests to log into their cable accounts and access cable that way. Bedroom, office, and living room have Australian Cypress hardwood floors. There is a galley style kitchen and a dining area. It has all the necessary appliances and utensils, as well as the basic condiments. The bath has a 4 foot wide maple vanity and matching medicine cabinet, and a one piece fiberglass tub/shower with a grab bar for safety and stability.
As the name implies, the Guest House is located on the Willamette River - at milepost 0 of the Ruth Bascomb Riverbank Trail. Additionally milepost 0 is located in Maurie Jacobs Park, and at the Greenway bike/pedestrian bridge across the river.
If you go to our map page we have a (website hidden) map where you can get a very good bird's eye view of the area. The large flat area is a City of Eugene soccer field, and that's the view from the living room window.
Since we're on the bike path, there are a couple of bikes here available for use at your own risk. These are "utility" bikes, certainly adequate for cruising the bike path, or for using to fish along the river, but not suitable for aggressive biking. A nearby bike shop has bicycles for rent if you want to do a bike workout. Though Oregon law does not require helmets for adults, wearing one is highly recommended. There are several adjustable helmets here to choose from.

The guest house is half of a duplex which is separated by a garage. The owner lives in the other half and the two share the backyard. A barbecue is available on request.
Off street parking on the guest house driveway.
There is an outdoor exercise station in the park across the street.

Someone will be waiting to show you the house upon your arrival, to furnish the keys and answer any questions. After that the house is your private space unless you need something from the hosts. The owner is home most of the time, and always available by phone for anything that requires immediate attention.

We went to Eugene to see a football game at Oregon stadium. This place is perfect for that!! It's right by a shuttle that takes u straight to the stadium. Ted communicated very nicely the two weeks leading up to our visit. His house is very cozy and had everything we needed. If we ever make it back to Eugene we will stay here again.

I knew Ted's place was going to be a great find before we even arrived. Ted went above and beyond weeks before our trip to make sure we knew what to expect of the area and helped us with directions and suggestions of places to visit. He is very friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable of the city of Eugene and surrounding areas. The nearby park and use of Ted's bikes are a great additional amenity to his guest house. I highly recommend Ted's guest house for any length of stay, it offers a great perspective of the city of Eugene and the state of Oregon. Thanks again Ted for everything you do!

Great central place basically in the park, next to the river, across from the mall/theater, and about anything else is easily accessible via bike or foot. Our host, Ted, was great, giving advise on places to go and see, and he made bikes available for us to tour the area - simply awesome. The house was comfy with nice touches, it felt like home for the week we stayed. We will definitely be back whenever we want to visit Eugene again.

Ted's place is great! You can't get much closer to the bike path, and Maurie Jacobs Park is great. The house and yard are beautiful!

Hey Alex, I really appreciate how well your parents took care of the place, and how clean they left it. Hope to see them again someday.

Ted is the perfect host. He was not intrusive but attentive. The house was incredibly clean and the kitchen was well equipped for most any thing. The convenience of the park, movie theater and shopping center just across the foot bridge over the river... make Ted's the perfect location. You will NOT be disapointed

Extremely responsive & genial host, the kind of guy you want to invite to your house for dinner. Just a super nice and interesting person. Highly gracious and fun to talk to. As a host, always available, but was never, ever intrusive. He is retired and lives next door - we never heard a peep. Very quiet and relaxing stay. Spotlessly clean accommodation with all necessary amenities - clean, thick towels, washcloths, soap, shampoo, etc. Fabulous water pressure in shower. Hot water pretty instantaneous w/ longevity. Nice bathtub if you are so inclined. VERY, VERY clean & large, comfy king sized bed, sofa, recliner (which we temporarily moved into living room from study for extra comfortable seating for late night TV). Furnishings are not "high-end" or extremely modern, but clean, extremely comfortable and in excellent physical shape. Suited us just fine and then some. Good work space at dedicated desk (with reading lamp) and kitchen table. Fast " video streaming quality" wifi. Decent Roku enabled TV +local stations. CD collection. All basic kitchen utensils, paper towels, dishwasher detergent, condiments, etc. provided. Kitchen layout highly functional. Great full size & cold fridge. Easy to operate, generously sized washer, dryer, laundry soap. Excellent folding & hanging clothes storage. Ted also has a couple of decent, spare, cruiser bicycles and helmets for his guests - which we, unfortunately :-( , were not able to take advantage of due to schedule. Such a shame as his location is absolutely superb and only a few steps from a beautiful multi-mile bike / walking trail adjacent to the Willimette River. We did take an early morning walk one day to the nearby (10 min) wetland. Gorgeous w/ many waterfowl - Migrating Green Winged Teal, Ring Necks, Mallards, Wood Ducks, Grebes, Cormorants, Kingfishers, etc. This paved trail provides great walking access to a number of restaurants and attractions. Via car, minutes from downtown and the University. Husband and I are in early 60's with a daughter at U of O. Ted's place beats the heck out of a hotel. Great location, much more relaxing and certainly more comfortable than alternative commercial considerations. Only downsides (which are minor) are... there is a nearby train, fairly frequent with a heavy horn. I'm an extremely light sleeper and it woke me up a few times the first night. My husband didn't hear it at all. The second night, woke me up only once. After that, for next few nights, never heard it. Second thing. If you are an electronics junkie (like me) with pretty intense work (multi laptop, phone ++++ demands when you travel), bring a portable extension / surge protector. Ted's guest quarters are newly remodeled with plenty of electrical outlets, but I just personally needed more reach & outlets (probably not common to most guests). In summary, Ted's West Bank Guest House in Eugene will be a prime go-to location for us as long as our daughter is living in the area. Maybe even after she departs :-)

Thanks for taking so much time to write this great review, I really appreciate it. Even though the train crossing is a half mile away it can be somewhat loud during certain weather conditions. There are a lot of citizens attempting to get them silenced, but our worthless city council says they don't have the money to rebuild the crossings even though they fall over each other throwing tax breaks at millionaire developers. Interesting that you mentioned the surge protector because I bought two for the guest house while you were here but didn't want to bother you to install them. I appreciate when guests point out things I could do to make improvements. Thanks again, and you're welcome back anytime, Ted.
