Our guest cottage is on a small lane on the water side of Bay Road. It is a 1BR, 1 & 1/2 Bath that was gut-renovated in 2014. The living room has a couch that converts to a queen-sized bed, and there is a nice small terrace outside.
The only rule--aside of the obvious ones of just treating the place nicely--is that we do not want to have guests disturbing the neighbors (that includes us). I need to emphasize that this is a really quiet street, and we are all homeowners going to work each day. As an example, drinks and dinner on the terrace sounds wonderful. Late night (after 10pm) drinking on the terrace with friends and music would definitely be an issue.
I am an urban planner (graduate degree is landscape architecture), and my husband Nathan is an environmental scientist. I grew up in Duxbury, and these two cottages (we live right next door) belonged to my grandparents. We are both big gardeners, and we will be spending most of our weekends working in the yard and gardens.
We are new to hosting, but I'm sure most will find us very easy-going and easy to get along with. Our favorite part of the day is cocktail hour (after all the work is done), and the best entertainment for us is a dinner party. With that said, we are generally very quiet, go to bed on the early side, and don't like noise. Loud people who love parties...particularly past 10pm, would not have fun renting our cottage.
