Spacious one bedroom apartment close to the quaint Kalk Bay Harbour with its colourful fishing boats; nestled between mountain and ocean. Beach, village shops, art, restaurants and interesting people.
Between mountain and sea in a natural bay, the feng shui of my spacious flat is perfect. Morning sun lights up the ocean outsie and the breeze is never far away. I live in this apartment and it is therefore a personal space in the spirit of AirBnB where you share someone else's home rather than a formal self-catering apartment. I rent it out when I go to my Karoo cottage. Kalk Bay is an old fishing village - yet full of bustling, modern life. Typically South African, we have diversity of people and experience all in one spot. Abundant nature, whales in season, coffee shops, art galleries, bars, restaurants - and Dalebrook Beach! (Minimum booking of two nights)
The whole 62 sq m apartment - one large bedroom and a stunning loft, open plan lounge with small balcony looking up at the Kalk Bay mountain with the ocean two minutes away downstairs. There is an extra three quarter bed in the lounge for a sleep over friend or a child; the bathroom is en-suite to the bedroom. Safe, private garage - it stores a lot of my books and paintings, so there is space for the car only! 42" movie screen with a couple of excellent DVD's and a few more on the USB stick. Wifi. Equipped kitchen with all the basics. Communal swimming pool.
You pick up the key from the friendly security guards at the entrance and the space is all yours. Check in at 2pm and check out at 11 am.
It is important to know that this is a lived-in, personal space; I am an artist and move between my little Karoo cottage and Kalk Bay with my teenage daughter. This apartment reflects our creativity and informal, casual life style, so you will stay here in the spirit of the AirBnB community where you share someone's home rather than a more formal self-catering apartment. Great thing about this seaside apartment is that it is among the bustle of the village but perfectly secluded and quiet when you want it to be. For things to do check out

I am a lover of silence - it speaks to me. Pepper Tree Cottage is my get-away where I go to draw, write and simply admire this beautiful, cozy cottage built during the late 1880s. I think of it as a sculpted home made from wood, reeds and clay - where nothing is straight. I love that the people in this part of the Karoo are friendly and ready to share a smile or story. I enjoy listening to the wind and birds around this little National Monument (Certified in 1988 by the South African Heritage Association.) And I love that I am its present care-taker.
