Self contained unique 1 bedroom 4 level apartment/house for up to 4 guests (one double bed and one double sofa bed). Located in the inner city of Sydney - two train stops from TOWN HALL. .


The older style quirky house/apartment was built in 1888 and renovated in 2009 and has four levels. It has a new kitchen and bathroom.

It is only a 2 minute walk to Sydney University, close to Victoria park (with olympic pool), the carriage works theatre complex with it's Saturday farmers market. 5 minutes to Refern village with numerous shopping outlet centres.

Close to buses on city road to the City but also 2 kms to trendy Newtown with lots of restaurants and cafes.

There is internet access, computer, printer, and fully equipped kitchen.

Darlington boasts it own collection of cafes/restaurants/pubs frequented by students and locals.

The apartment is just 10 minutes walk to Prince Alfred Park with outdoor gym and swimming pool, tennis courts and basket ball courts. It is 10 minutes walk to the University of Technology and the free CBD shuttle bus from Railway Square. Central park shops and cafe's food halls etc is less that 10 minutes walk as is the Broadway shopping centre.

All train lines in Sydney go through Redfern Station (except the airport line where you must change at either Central or Wolli Creek). This means that you can access nearly every place in the Greater Sydney Region from the local station - the hunter, the central coast the blue mountains, the Illawarra, the southern highlands. Trains leave for Central and Town Hall stations every few minutes and go through the night at least hourly.

You can walk to China Town, in the hay market, and to Darling harbour in 15 minutes or catch the bus on City road opposite Victoria Park (just 5 minutes walk). Buses also go directly from City Road to both Leichhardt and Coogee Beach (number 370). A stroll around the Sydney University is a must for both its old and modern architecture. Include a stroll around the streets of Darlington and soak up the Victorian atmosphere.....Don't forget the carriage works with or without the market - this is a converted carriage repair building converted into a theatre complex, and has a very quirky bar. Local pubs are also great.


Internet and use of printer and computers....modern kitchen and bathroom, laundry in the basement.

The rooftop deck is a great place for alfresco dining.


I live two blocks away and I am available if there are any difficulties. However I generally do not intrude on guests. There is a digital lock so there is no need to pick up keys.


There are ceiling fans in the bedroom and living room. Because of the high ceilings the house is generally cool in Summer. There is gas heating in winter.

The house should be left in a generally clean and tidy condition, and furniture left the way it was found. The cleaner reports on this prior to the bond being released.

When you leave, can you please make sure that:
• Duvets are folded and put at the end of the beds with pillows
• The place is left in a reasonably clean and tidy state
• Front door is shut and has locked
• Please do not move furniture or change the cabling as the cleaner is not able to reconfigure the furniture or the electronics.
• Please do not remove duvets from duvet covers.

Great location really close to the redfern transit station, fun layout (every room stacked on top of each other, 4 floors including the deck). We really appreciated the Opal cards which made transit much easier! Thanks for a great stay!

We had fantastic 3 nights at Des's place. The house had everything we needed. Kitchen had lots of pots and pans and all basic supplies.

The Corner Shop is a great find. There are several nice things about The Corner Shop, the best of which is its location. It's located in the heart of Sydney and is very well connected. Redfern T Station, a very important junction, is literally a 4 minute walk. In addition, Redfern neighborhood is fantastic. Lots of cafes and restaurants close by, and seemed a like a fairly safe neighborhood. The house itself is great. It has several of the basic amenities needed for a household. The rooftop patio and garden are cute! We had visited in August. Despite it being winter, we were able to enjoy the patio sun during the afternoons. Desmond is a great host. He provided us plenty of information regarding the place and the neighborhood. He responds to emails very quickly. He was especially very flexible when we told him that we wanted to do an early check in. He went to great lengths to ensure that our early check in went smoothly. I would definitely recommend this place. It was one of the best things about our trip to Sydney.

On the whole we were very satisfied. It's a very convenient location for the university and for getting around on the train (it's about 3 blocks from Redfern train station which covers most lines). There are also some restaurants and shops just a few blocks away. The house is spacious (for the inner part of Sydney) and there's a very pleasant outdoor space on the top floor (though the weather wasn't really good for us to use it). There's also a desktop computer and opal cards for the use of the tenants, which was really useful. The door is a combination lock, which is also incredibly useful so you don't have to worry about losing keys, or having separate keys for everyone in your party.
