Tucked away in the unspoilt Ox Mountains it is the ideal place to ‘get away from it all’, where the only call is that of nature beckoning you to explore it. It is an ideal retreat for nature lovers, artists, or a romantic break away. Our Bed in Barn is presented clean and tidy. Please leave it in the same manner. If there are breakages/damages please let us know before you leave.
We also provide an OOPS:) jar to compensate for small damages.

If you wish to smoke, there is a covered space outside.

The two rooms upstairs do have wooden floors. Please do not enter these rooms with shoes. Feel free to use the slippers that we provide.

Back-to-basics WIFI limited to 02. GB per night booking. You will/may have mobile reception in the Barn or within a short distance.

We have a small 'library' with some books regarding Ireland, its history and more. We kindly request guests NOT to swap books (as it is common in hostels)

We listed the Bed in Barn as not suitable for infants. You are welcome to bring your infant but it will be at your own risk and as we have no waste collection we request to bring the nappies 'home'. Safety concerns are a.o.: a steep staircase, a flue liner running through the master bedroom(coming from the range in t he kitchen), a concrete floor and coconut carpet in the kitchen. See also the listing at 'other things to note', why we feel the Bed in Barn is not fully suitable for infants.

You can make a small campfire outside. There is plenty of wood you can gather in the nearby forestry or feel free to bring your own blocks. Please do not use the fuel - blocks, coal etc. - provided in the Bed in Barn. It is supposed to heat the building for your own comfort.

ต้องขึ้นบันได - The stair is open and a bit steep. But there is a grab rail. See the images
มีสัตว์เลี้ยงในที่พัก - At present we have 3 cats
ข้อจำกัดของสิ่งอำนวยความสะดวก - Back-to-basics WIFI: signal not strong, unstable and limited data (0.2GB per night booking)

Holy moly! What a find! Ineke and Benjamin have done an incredible job doing up the barn and making it a funky, cosy and fascinating place to stay. Beds were extremely comfy, heating was great, lovely kitchen with big table and sweet outdoor spot to have a fire! We also had a delicious cake left for us to enjoy when we arrived! Gutted we only had one night but will hopefully be back soon! Lovely people, lovely place!

Great spot! Perfect place to go exploring or to stay indoor for a cosy retreat. We stayed for two nights and couldn't leave the fire and swing, a lovely set up, even with wet weather. The hosts are accommodating and friendly :) it's exactly what it says on the tin!

Bed and Barn was by far our favorite place to stay on our whole trip of Ireland. We didn't mind getting rained out of our trip to benbulbin because we knew we had the Barn to cozy up in. I would recommend to location to any of my friends as it's just such a delightful experience to stay here. I hope we have an excuse to come here again in the future.

Thanks again Ineke and Benjamin. We really loved staying in your home. We feel so relaxed, loved the campfire and sitting outside in the beautiful surroundings. Our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer. Will definitely be back. Amy and Chris

The bed-in-barn was amazing! We were late arriving, but Ineke and Ben were super supportive and helpful (we got a flat tire on our way there). Ineke made great last minute suggestions on a late night place to eat - The 'New Jewel in the Crown' in Tuppercurry has the BEST Indian food and was open late! Our 9 and 6 year old were both begging for us to go there again for lunch the next day. We really wished we could have enjoyed the barn for longer so we are looking forward to heading back there someday! The Ox mountains were beautiful and absolutely worth a trip down the narrow roads (no worries, there was hardly any other travelers on the road!) Thank you to Ineke and Benjamin for showing us around the Ox Bindery -- we really found the store and the work fascinating and picked up a couple really unique gifts! Much love and appreciation from our entire family! See you soon!

Just an amazing place to spend time, we got in super late and our hosts where kind enough to light the stove so we where not to cold on arrival. The barn is so well down and very eco friendly. The quite and how dark the night sky is was by far the highlight of our stay but no worries if you not a late night person, the barn is is one of the most beautiful parts of Ireland Ive ever seen. Thanks and I cant wait to get back that way.

I am trained as a Physcial Education Teacher, and taught for many years PE to kids at primary schools, refugees and students at Teacher Training Colleges in the Netherlands.
Before I came to Ireland I did a lot of sports: as a kid swimming and waterpolo, as a student skiing and mountaineering (rock and ice climbing) as a mum gymnastics and windsurfing. And now playing the piano, gardening, collecting and chopping wood to keep the Bed in Barn warm and cosy.

I came to Ireland in 2002 - leaving behind all the hustle and bustle of the big city - and joined my husband Benjamin van de Wetering, who already lived in an old cottage in the heart and tranquility of the Ox Mountains.
I found a job as a primary school teacher, and in the mean time we set up The Ox Bindery, a conservation studio for books, paper and parchment. Benjamin taught me not only how to restore books and paper, but also how to create new books. I said farewell to teaching and started making my own handmade Fun and Fantasy Books and Blackboards, thus developing my creativity. We are happy to give you a tour around in our studio and little gift shop. If you wish you can learn how to bind your own book. Visit Piggelmeebooks & Blackboards and get inspired!

Once fully settled it was time to take steps to share this lovely, fairy place with family, friends and guests. The roof of the old hay barn was falling apart, so it was time for a new roof! Allthough people did live in our cottage with eleven children, in these modern times we felt that we needed a bit more space for family to accommodate. The decision was made; not only a new roof, but also a 'nice build-in-between-the-old-pillars rooms' with a natural feel to it.
I did the 'architectural' work, the builder built the basic structure, and Benjamin finished the rooms with selfmade furniture, as the Queens wardrobe, lamps made of parchment etc.
We are happy with the result: eco-friendly, back to basic, a touch of the old days - range, rainwater, drinking water from a well - and some modern comfort as a fully insulated new building, landscaped garden, all on a 1 acre site.

We are happy to 'share' this lovely, special place with you.
