9 miles from downtown Homer, in the quaint Fritz Creek area, the drive is a beautiful, iconic part of old Homer.
The room is made up with clean bed linens and towels before each guest.
9.5 miles east of Downtown Homer. There are two other guest rooms on other floors of the home, and in summer a tent site with outdoor kitchen.
The house is a rustic old Alaskan home, built in the 1970's around a log cabin which is now the kitchen and downstairs bathroom. The front deck is a great place to relax and watch the sun play on on the mountains and glaciers.
There is a nice lawn area with a picnic table and firepit with wood, and barbeque area.
The property has wild Alaska charm, surrounded by native plants and flowers, and a small creek running through the wild part of the land. There is a small flock of 5 hens and a rooster free-ranging. They often greet visitors, and the rooster likes to have his chest petted. Moose often wander through.
There are Alaska books, maps and artifacts in the living room, including some USGS maps with good trailheads and stops circled, for guests to borrow.
We have a Finnish style wood-fired sauna building, paneled inside with local cottonwood, with a secluded view of the bay and Homer Spit. Three tiers of benches easily accommodates 6 or more people. You can reserve the sauna stocked with wood, water, locally-made soap, essential oils for scented steam, shampoo and extra towels, for $30 for 3 hours. $5 extra per person after two. You can light it yourself if I'm at work. Detailed instructions are posted. I will be glad to heat it up for you if I am around. It needs about an hour to pre-heat, 2 hours in winter. To add this cleansing, relaxing, experience to your stay, let me know which day and time, and I will send you a special offer to cover sauna rental.
Late check-ins are fine. I encourage folks to enjoy the light summer nights. You can have a summer day anywhere, but the summer nights in Alaska have a magic of their own. Kitchen cupboard and fridge space provided. Some freezer space available. Coffee, half & half, sugar and tea provided. Towels, soap, shampoo, conditioner and blow dryer provided. There is an ironing board and steam iron in the upstairs bathroom. Guests have use of the kitchen with a copy of "Cooking Alaskan" and a well-stocked spice cupboard. Buy some wild Alaskan seafood at Coal Point Trading Company on the spit, and save money over dining out, by preparing your own! There is a picnic table on the main lawn, and a covered, lighted, fully equipped outdoor kitchen with gas grill and coleman stove for barbeques. Relax and enjoy the views from the living room, deck, or by the firepit in the garden, with wood provided.
Raspberry picking is encouraged in late summer. No laundry facilities available, but doing laundry at The Washboard is a classic Homer experience, as many folks in the area have limited or no running water.
My interaction with guests varies, as I am often working in town. I like to let folks enjoy the space to themselves as much as possible, but I love to visit, provide travel info, and swap stories. My room and office is upstairs.
Check out my Guidebook on this listing for great tips on Homer activities and points of interest.
