I have just come back from staying at Alfredo's Sunset House and have serious holiday blues! Alfredo was a great host. He was unobtrusive, but always there at a moment’s notice if we needed something. He always responded quickly to my messages.
I stayed here with my son and we had the most wonderful time. The house was just what we needed, it is in a quiet location, in fact it's the only house down the street. The only sounds at night are the crashing of the waves, Cory's Shearwaters and frogs. There are some cockerels in the morning, but it’s the same all over the island.
Initially when we arrived there was a problem with the wifi internet not working, which was imperative for me since I had some business to finish. Alfredo came back within an hour and fixed it. The wifi is better than we have at home!
I really loved this house because it's basic, but stylish and a little bohemian, not fussy, and very clean. Everything you need is provided. The longer we stayed, the more I fell in love with the place. We particularly liked it that we were well away from the playa del Ingles and the harbour, but in walking distance to both.
We did hire a car for the whole of our stay, because we wanted to explore the Island on our own and did many walks in the Cloud Forests of the National park.
To my surprise, there are very few mosquitoes on La Gomera! As a person who always gets bitten, I got only one bite during the whole stay, even though I left the patio door open all night! What bliss to have no mosquitoes at all! There are many dragonflies on La Gomera, they are absolutely everywhere, and this is said to be why there are no Mosquitoes.
The harbour is about a 10 minute walk and he nicest place to go and eat. I would recommend 'La Salsa' in the harbour to eat out. We ate there 4 times in the 11 nights we stayed. Really nice food, good vegetarian options, great service and not overpriced.
Don’t forget to do a whale watch trip while you are staying here, we did 5 trips and had really great sightings every time :)
