Well-kept, uncluttered, clean, roomy house in quiet residential neighborhood, less than ten minutes from downtown/UNC. Upright piano, sound system, and other extras. From the large kitchen window you are likely to watch deer hanging out in the rear garden... Lovely woods and park nearby, & just minutes from excellent restaurants, movie theaters, shopping, etc.

Wonderful yet affordable, very comfortable entire house in desirable Chapel Hill neighborhood, very close to great (including many "ethnic") restaurants, cinemas, and downtown Chapel Hill.

Guests will have access to the whole house, front and rear yards, etc. (We will only leave a few clothes hanging in one of the -- very large, walk-in -- bedroom closets.)

Usually I will not be here when I rent out the house. I will leave detailed information about all relevant aspects, and will always be readily available by phone and email, etc.

The TV antenna receives about 40 channels, and there’s also a Roku device, on which you can receive Netflix, Amazon, Pandora, HBO, and many other programs/channels. Also, although I currently have a "strict" cancellation policy, I will try to issue a refund when possible, on a case by case basis (depending on whether I can still book the house for those dates, etc.). And though it states 5 p.m. check-in, I can usually accommodate an earlier arrival (or later check-out, often). An extra fee is normally charged for one night stays.

1. Smoking is ONLY allowed outside the house. (If you do smoke outside, please clean up any cigarette butts, etc.)
2. People other than those in the listed Guest party may not stay overnight in the property without the permission of the Owner. Any other person in the property is the sole responsibility of the Guest.
3. Though there is a "strict" cancellation policy in place, I can be more flexible when possible, in terms of issuing refunds, depending on whether I can still book the house for the same dates, etc.). There is an extra charge of $25 for a one-night stay.
4. The Guest agrees to keep the property and all furnishings in good order, and to leave the premises in the same condition as it was encountered. Please treat the piano with care if you play it, and please keep it closed when not in use.
5. The Guest agrees to only use appliances for their intended uses.
6. Pets are NOT allowed, unless with prior approval from the Owner (and the Pet Addendum must be completed). Pets are not usually allowed inside the house (and my daughter is somewhat allergic), but exceptions can be considered (with a pet deposit and fee).
7. Parking: Guests may park in the driveway or on the street, but the garage is not to be used without permission.
8. This is a residential family neighborhood, so it is imperative to keep the noise level down, especially after about 9:30 at night. Any improper behavior (such as loud "partying" activities late at night) can result in withholding part or all of the security deposit.
9. Housekeeping: There is no daily housekeeping service. While a variety of linens and bath towels are provided, daily maid service is not included in the rental rate. (Cleaning services can be arranged with the Owner.) We do not permit towels, linens or other items to be taken from the house.
10. Storms: If there is a storm or hurricane, no refunds will be given unless:
•The state or local authorities order mandatory evacuations in a "Tropical Storm/Hurricane Warning area" and/or
•A "mandatory evacuation order has been given for the Tropical Storm/Hurricane Warning" area of residence of a vacationing guest.
•The day that the authorities order a mandatory evacuation order in a "Tropical Storm/Hurricane Warning," area, we will refund:
Any unused portion of rent from a guest currently registered;
Any unused portion of rent from a guest that is scheduled to arrive, and wants to shorten the stay, to come in after the Hurricane Warning is lifted; and
Any advance rents collected or deposited for a reservation that is scheduled to arrive during the "Hurricane Warning" period.

Cancel up to 7 days before your trip and get a 50% refund. Cancel within 7 days of your trip and the reservation is non-refundable.

Daniel was a most gracious host! His home was perfect for our family of 5 adults and 3 children. We appreciated his tips on the area, particularly the American Tobacco Trail, perfect for a nice bike ride. The kids were thrilled when they saw a herd of deer pass thru his backyard in the early evening. The family enjoyed a nice after dinner walk thru the safe quiet neighborhood surrounding his home. Daniel was always prompt when responding to an inquiry, and was genuinely concerned about our comfort throughout our stay. A great spot to stay if you're visiting the Chapel Hill-Raleigh-Durham area.

Great location for visiting UNC-Chspel Hill and surrounding communities. We drove so didn't use public transportation but saw many bus stops in the area. We wanted a place to relax after apartment hunting and furniture shopping with our son, who is in graduate school this fall. Numerous antique and second-hand shops as well as access to larger shopping centers. Able to shop locally for groceries. Great location with beautiful trees. Very peaceful. Saw deer in the nerghbor's front yard one evening.

Daniel's home is lovely and comfortable, just like his photos show! I stayed here with four other people to visit family in the neighborhood. They live just minutes away, so it was a perfect location for us. Plus, it's a fast drive to many great restaurants and convenient shopping. Checking in and out was a breeze, and Daniel's also very thoughtful about what his guests might need. It's very clean, and there are small signs around the home about how to use the lights, fans, and where to find things. Plus, his backyard is a nature wonderland! There's a bird feeder right outside the huge dining room window, which makes for an entertaining breakfast. And one afternoon in the backyard, I watched a mama deer and baby strolling through. I definitely recommend staying, and I can hope to return for any future visits!

House is 10 min drive to UNC. Clean. Feels like in a forest with deer viewed nearly daily.

The house was great. We live in town ourselves and stayed at Daniel's house while work was being done on our heating system. The house is wonderful -- clean and cozy and quiet. It is conveniently located for easy access to both Chapel Hill and Durham. One of the best parts was Daniel himself. He was highly responsive and entirely focused on the quality of our stay. I would recommend this house to anyone, and I will rent it again myself when family is visiting from out-of-town.

This house was great for our family of 5. The kids had their own beds and the family room area was great for lounging. The bathrooms were clean and there were plenty of towels. The kitchen is dated, but completely functional. There is a nice, big window at the back of the kitchen and my kids loved watching the deer as they ate breakfast. The house was tidy and in a nice, quiet neighborhood. The location is perfect if you need to visit UNC. It is just a few minutes down the road from downtown Chapel Hill. It also has great access to I-40. Daniel was a great host and easy to contact.

Great! It was quiet, inexpensive, and the perfect place for my friends and I to stay while in Chapel Hill for the weekend.

Over the past 40 years I have traveled widely, conducted research (in anthropology and public health) in dozens of countries, mostly in Africa, Latin America and Asia, and taught many different types of students (recently at the Harvard University School of Public Health). Our 2012 book, "Tinderbox: How the West Sparked the AIDS Epidemic and How the World Can Finally Overcome It," was a New York Times Editor's Choice. You may read more about my work and background on my (UNC and tinderboxbook) sites. I love music (jazz and other kinds), good food, and hiking and biking, especially in this lovely part of North Carolina. The single most important thing to me is to be able to assist other people (family, friends, and "strangers") in any reasonable way that I can.
