Rainbow Cottage is a private, spacious, one bedroom cottage, with a large bathroom, a reading area and full kitchen. The living room has a sofa/futon that makes into a standard size bed. Located in a Tropical Fruit Orchard with colorful Landscaping.
My listing is unique as the cottage is in a tropical Fruit Orchard. Also unique as this area is off the grid. Power lines are 4 miles away. Electricity is by solar power with a back-up generator. Queen size bed in bedroom very comfortable for two. Futon is standard size, comfortable for two small adults or two children.
There is wifi, snorkeling gear, beach towels, etc. Guests can pick their own tropical fruit if they want to. Smoking outdoors only. Private gated entrance.
I meet my guests at my cottage and then take them to the guest cottage. I interact as much or as little as they want. I offer guests a tour of my tropical orchard if they are interested.
While I have wifi, cell phones do not work from the cottage. One must go Up the road about 1/2 mile where there is cell phone reception. ATnT works best There is reception in Pahoa of all phone companies . Pahoa is about 10 miles away.
Pahoa has 3 gas stations , two banks, about 10 restaurants, hardware , drug, a health food and grocery store. There is no McDonalds...
No high wattage plug-ins like hair dryers or irons. Be conservative with the electricity by turning off lights, and appliances when not in use as solar power relies on batteries at night. Smoking outside only.
I am a retired Horticulturist and Urban Forester now living in the beautiful area of lower Puna Hawaii. I was born in Washington D.C. but have lived in North Carolina and California most of my life before now calling Hawaii my home.
The private guest cottage is on my 9 acre Tropical Orchard, just steps to the sea . My cottage is just down the road where I live with a friend, our dogs and chickens.
I enjoy sharing my tropical fruit, flowers, and range free eggs with guests and learning whatever my guests want to share about their selves.
I like living here for the weather, the rural and primeval location, and mostly for the wonderful community that embraces all life styles . And I strive to take an active part in the community.
This area of Hawaii is truly unique with many natural attractions and there is even an active volcano nearby.
I have traveled to South America, Europe, Australia and Thailand, but hope to still travel to other countries, like China, Turkey, Russia etc. I really enjoy learning about different cultures and especially trying new foods.
I also love to read and keep up on politics. I speak Spanish, having lived in Chile , South America as a Peace Corps Volunteer.
