Our place is up on the mountain in the coffee country , walking distance to Holualoa Village and about 15 minutes by car to Kailua and the ocean. This is not tourist country and offers of nice slice of the quiet life we enjoy here. People tell us that this is a nice place to come home to after the adventures of the day. Shared Breezeway and lawn, very comfortable and restful. Small fridge, Microwave, hotplate, outdoor shower, Kuerig coffee maker. Handmade furnishings from local woods.
This is a small apartment with private entrance and off street parking. We live in another house on property which is also the site of our woodworking studio. Mary Jo will be available for advice or questions. The outdoor shower has plenty of solar hot water. Towels , linens and other basic supplies are provided. The queen bed is very comfy and there is a ROKU TV with Netflix. Wifi provided. Handmade furnishings from local woods make the place very special.
The apartment is has its own little yard, and the adjacent Breezeway is a shared space with a dining table and laundry and extra 1/2 bath. This is all ground floor.
We will be available to greet and get you settled in. Please call Mary Jo if anything is needed during your stay. The shop is a working studio so it's best to set a time for a visit. We live and work here so there's always something going on!
Winter ( November - March)is the dry season in Kona with cooler nights and sunnier days. Storms do come through and surf is usually higher. Summer often has sunny mornings with showers in the afternoon, warmer weather in general and the coqui frogs are chirping.
This is a quiet neighborhood, and a special opportunity to enjoy a calm place off the beaten path, yet minutes away from an artists village and the ocean. We ask that people respect the place, be careful with food scraps ( ants etc) . No smoking on property. we live in another house on property and are usually close by to help if needed.
My husband and I have been in Hawaii since 1980 and have grown to be a part of the landscape up here in Holualoa. Tai is a furniture maker and I work with fused and cast glass here at our home. Our grown kids and 3 dogs live with us here and there's rarely a dull moment with visiting artists and constant projects and gardens to tend. Our place is calm and unpretentious, a nice haven from the buzz of the coastline. It's true,,, we are artists living in an artist village , we grow as much as we can around here and help out where we can. We built the home with the apartment for Dad in 2000 and have enjoyed a steady stream of wonderful people over the years and now want to open that up.
