Comfortable room for 1 or 2 guests in a former Victorian manse from 1899 - enjoy your private balcony and views over the countryside of South Ayrshire! Come and go as you please, we'll give you a key. Convenient position for weddings at Dalduff Farm and Culzean Castle (free outward transport by prior arrangement, just book your taxi back). Golfers, cyclists & walkers welcome - dry out your gear in the house and store your bike in the garage. New from autumn 2017: chance to rent our kayaks!
Have you ever stayed in a former manse? Our house was built in 1899 (no, we are not the original owners!) and still has a great stained glass window in the hallway. Your room is spacious with a double bed (160x200cm) and a double-height-mattress. It has central heating, an additional electric fireplace, direct access to your private south-facing balcony and dual aspect windows. There is a small writing desk and a large comfortable sofa, if you prefer to spend time in your room. It has a good-sized open clothes rail and a chest of drawers. We provide towels and linen and - in case you forgot to pack something - toiletries and hairdryer on request. Iron and ironing board are available as well as washing machine and dryer (all for shared use). The bathroom is just round the corner from your room and is shared with us: it has a big bathtub as well as an electric shower.
Your guestroom has its own small catch-up TV unit with DVD player. Catch-up TV connection can temperamental, but is available in the downstairs lounge. WIFI is available for free throughout the house.
A word about how weather might affect your stay: the guestroom is on the upper floor of the house and faces southwest. When it gets a bit more windy outside (particularly outside the summer season and with gusts over 30 mph), you are likely to hear the wind 'howl' around the house. Some guests quite enjoy this, but if you are concerned, please pack earplugs.
We'll be around in the house most of the time and you are welcome to join us in either lounge for TV (UK and German free-view available).
Parking is available on the drive (not suitable for caravans). We strongly recommend that you bring a car or have a careful look at public transport websites to make sure our location works for your travel plans. We might be able to provide some help with transport (if you're going to a wedding, for example), however can we ask you to discuss when you book? -- From autumn 2017 we're also offering use of our two sit-on-top kayaks by arrangement and from £15 each per day - use at your own risk. They come with complete with paddles, seats, buoyancy aids (one each in size L/XL and XXL available). We can help you transport them to nearby places Croy, Maidens or Dunure.
You can use the downstairs lounges, the dining room and the shared bathroom. We have a patio area with table, chairs and sun loungers on the side and/or back of the house which you can use.
Let us know if you would like to prepare your favourite breakfast items or heat up meals in the kitchen. If you would like a bit of space in the fridge, we can probably fit it in. We provide breakfast supplies, so you can fix your own at your preferred time. We may not be able to cater for special diet requirements and cannot guarantee that certain food will not be in the house - please discuss in advance if food allergies are a concern.
Languages spoken are English, German and very little French.
No guests under age 16 and ages 16-18 only if accompanied by adult. Just because we had some unusual requests: (1) We only have one room with a double bed, this cannot be converted into a twin room and the maximum number of guests is TWO. (2) We will decline requests which include children under age 16. Therefore we do not provide cots or other baby gear. (3) We do not give discounts if you only use the room for a few hours on the way to/from the ferry. (4) Politics, religion and anything else: if you're curious, we're happy to share our view with you. If you're more comfortable just talking about the weather or indeed nothing at all - that's fine, it's really up to you :-)
We can sometimes be flexible regarding check-in and check-out times, please mention requirements when making a booking enquiry and we can try to fit that in. Please understand that we might need the time between 10:00 and 2:00 p.m. to get the room ready for the next guest or to deal with other things - it may not always be possible to stay longer in the morning!
Absolutely no pets and no smoking in the house. If there's any damage (either by you or something isn't functioning), please let us know, so we can fix it.
We prefer guests not to wear outdoor shoes in the house.
