Peaceful, private, and pet-friendly. Echo Laurel is a cabin in the woods, nestled among the oak, maple, and poplar trees. You will enjoy lovely views, plenty of natural light, and the refreshing smells and sounds of the Smoky Mountains. Echo Laurel Cabin is a welcoming place for people of every kind.
Lovely, airy cabin in the woods with mountain views, stone fireplace, and comfy beds. On the main floor are two bedrooms with queen beds, one full bathroom, kitchen/dining room, living room, and laundy closet; upstairs is the master loft suite with queen bed, half bath, desk, and reading/lounge chair.
Echo Laurel is a perfect place to write, read, create, or decompress. The master loft suite and one of the downstairs bedrooms have desks. This cabin also is a terrific homebase if you want to venture out to see the sights and culture of the area, or throw yourself into the more athletic activities of the mountains and their rivers and streams. This cabin is not a place for parties. Simple and 'rustic' enough for a great mountain cabin feel without compromising on modern conveniences or amenities. Mountain or wooded views from every window. The cabin is very private but not completely secluded. I and various family members stay at the cabin frequently so some of our clothes and toiletries may be there.
Bring your food, and everything else you need to prepare delicious meals is provided in my fully-equipped kitchen. Start your mornings with the hummingbirds and a cup of coffee on the deck. If you're lucky, you'll be able to enjoy a soft mountain rain from the covered deck.
Head over to Asheville, Maggie Valley, or Cherokee for the afternoon or the day. Check out the eclectic shops, eateries, and bookstores in nearby Dillsboro and Sylva. Drive up to Highlands for stunning views, hiking, and magnificent waterfalls. Or spend the day in Franklin exploring the work of mountain artists and craftspeople, shopping in the antique and upcycle stores, and dining from a variety of restaurants. Wind down at one of Franklin's coffee & tea shops, bookstores, or bakeries. Then head back to the cabin and spend the evening on the deck or in the adirondock chairs in the yard enjoying the view before ending the day in front of the fireplace.
You will have access to the entire home; only you and your guests will be there. The cabin has phone service with free long distance calls, two televisions, a DVD player, and high speed WiFi.
Feel free to use anything you have access to, but please replace anything you use up.
I stay at the cabin regularly but do not live there. During your stay, I am a phone call, text message, or email away and I have family who live nearby who help me take care of my place.
Sometimes I can accommodate last minute weekend plans for 2 nights (usually a 3-night minimum on weekends) at $110/night.
Winter months access require all-wheel drive or 4-wheel drive vehicle during snow; 4WD is recommended. And because winter weather always brings with it the possibility of storm power outage, winter rental carries with it some risk. Some of these months are blocked off on my calendar for this reason but booking may be negotiable, contingent upon weather.
Children will need supervision as the terrain is steep. Not recommended for small children.

ARRIVAL: You will have access via a lockbox key. You will get the lockbox code from me prior to your arrival. Guests may not arrive at the cabin until their check-in time.
SMOKING: No smoking in the cabin, and you must take care to keep doors closed if smoking on the deck so that smoke does not get into the house. Do not dispose of butts on the grounds.
PETS: If you bring a pet, please have her/him bathed and treated for fleas/ticks just before your trip. You also will need to bring some blankets from home to lay on the furniture and bedspreads to protect them. Pets should be kept confined to the property, and pet deposits should be removed from sight and from walking areas around the home.
RECYCLING: Macon County requires that you separate out recyclables from your trash. I have provided two bins in the kitchen for this purpose. If you leave bags in which you've combined trash and recycling, there is a fee to have them separated. We are happy to take the two bags to the dump/recycling center for you, saving you the trip and the fee.
NOISE: This is a quiet place and loud noise is not permitted. Echo Laurel is not a good fit for guests who intend to party. I have had some complaints from neighbors, so please keep things peaceful at the cabin.
FIREPLACE: There is wood for you to build fires in the fireplace. If you have not lit a fire in a fireplace before, please don't learn on your own at my cabin. If you give me a call I am happy to talk you through it. It's only easy and safe if you know what you are doing.
