Apsley, North Kawartha: 40 min N of Peterborough, 35 min S of Bancroft, 10 min from the town of Apsley and Chandos Lake, beach and public boat launch, 8 min from Marvel Rapids Golf Course, and 15 min from Silent Lake and Kawartha Highlands Provincial Parks, ATV/sled from home.

Nature. Peace. Quiet. Wildlife. Enjoy my 60 acres and walking-ATV trails with beaver, wild turkey, deer, grouse, duck, bluejays...

Sleeps 4 - 2 bedrooms with Q beds, 1 bath.

Min age is 27. No pets. Smoke outdoors.

Summer 2021 availability from Victoria Day weekend - Labour Day for minimum weekly, 7 nights, rentals. Check in Friday after 2pm.

Cell service available.

Free Wifi with XPlornet satellite service (the ONLY service available at this address ): Note, it is a max 25mb download speed, and a max limited monthly service of 200GB - if the usage limit is exceeded, download slows. If there is inclement weather (including high wind, trees falling on outdoor wires, snow storms) between Apsley and the satellite Jupiter, floating above Manitoba, there may be downtime.

In Apsley, the North Kawartha Public Library provides unlimited free town-wired, super-speed Internet. Computer desktop-tech services, printing, high-quality colour photo prints in large sizes. Inside, enjoy a good collection of DVDs and an impressive, sometimes eclectic collections of books - see Fiction, Canadiana, True Crime (teen fiction and children's area). If folks are allowed in and how long is up to the North Kawartha Municipality and the Library Covid lockdown rules.

No Cable TV. There are 65" and 40" TV monitors with Google Chromecast and HD cable (PC and MAC adaptor) to cast from your laptop/device. There is access to Apple TV and Netflix, etc. for your paid subscriptions. DVD/Blu Ray player and my home collection of DVDs and a few BlueRays (old school 1970s-90s).

Extra room: there is a 3rd room downstairs for your shelving/storage, which can accommodate a fifth wheel in your household, to fit a camping cot or an inflatable double-queen air mattress in a 5'W x 7'L space.

If there is Hydro One electrical power outage, you must be up to flipping switches on a 200amp electrical board and turning on an electric generator...and if not, I have a local Apsley property contractor to support you at Pinewoods.

Winterisms: Clydesdale Rd. and all other municipal roads are plowed. As well, the Pinewoods driveway is plowed when a snowfall exceeds 2". There is a truck ShelterLogic tent. A 4-wheel drive is best but not needed in North Kawartha in the winter. In case of a snowstorm have water and food provisions for at least a day before you are plowed out. You will be expected to keep the deck, front stairs, and walk to the driveway cleared of snow.

No pets allowed on the property because of wildlife (including yearlings and fawns, calves born in the Spring) and hunting in November. Explore the trails - drop some local apples on your walks.

Smoke outdoors.

ATVs welcome. North Kawartha has passed an ATV By-law #2016-126 and Schedule A - Municipal Road Map allowing ATV's on municipal roads. Winter sled from my home and pick up the OFSC trail in Apsley.

Summer A/C not available - ceiling fans in each room and stand-up oscillating fans in each room. Farmer's Almanac for the summer of 2021 predicts Ontario will be hit with 'sweltering heat' - bring fans, respect the daily movement of the sun and relief of shade, run the de-humidifier downstairs, and breathe 4 breaths in to your belly and slowly 8 breaths out, and repeat x4.

Minimum age to rent Pinewoods is 27.

No pets allowed, especially dogs, because of wildlife on the property.

Smoke outdoors.

NOTE: natural Well water source. Annual Culligan UV light filter & water filter change, regular water softener, and annual North Kawartha water testing for safety. Suggest You Do Not Drink the Water from the Well source (taps). Buy Natural Spring Water - not distilled - for all water drinking sources, including the coffee maker. That's what I do.

Pinewoods guests supply own linens and towels, including dish towels (except the 2 weeks in November during the hosted rifle-bow hunt camp). There is toilet paper and paper towels upon arrival.

Guests are asked to leave my home and property as clean and in same condition as you arrived.

Please read all the house manual before you request a booking.

Enjoy my quiet, private retreat in nature. Walk about, ride your ATVs, enjoy sunrise on the deck, walk along trails to a large beaver-duck pond, sit by an outdoor fire each night and star gaze, daily bird watch, feed the bluejays, look and listen to the wildlife.

Read my Guidebook to local seasonal attractions.

Pinewoods November Hunting:
Ontario WMU 60 is a paradise for white-tailed deer hunting. During the WMU60 two-week rifle deer hunt in November, Pinewoods (private land) offers 2 weekly White-tailed deer rifle/bow hunt camps. All hunters welcome: single hunters, new hunters, hunting couples, female hunters...

Accommodations for hunters - 2 bedrooms with Queen beds, on-site hosting as a semi-guided B&B&D (Bed & Breakfast & Dinner). In addition to the $100 night fee for house accommodation, there is an additional charge of $50 per hunter, per day for hosting, guiding and baiting, and meals.

There are 2 property baited plots (starting with a seeded feed plot in May-Nov) with 1 ladder tree stand and 1 ground blind in each area.

Contact Service Ontario for annual hunting regulations (available in April), Licences and Licence Summary (WMU60 for antlerless). To hunt at Pinewoods, you must provide a PAL (firearms), an Ontario Hunter's Licence, Service Ontario Licences, and Licence Summary for the year you are hunting.

As my hunting camp guests, zero-in and practice at the Bancroft Fish & Game Club on the 100-300 yard rifle range, archery & crossbow ranges (there are handgun ranges 25-50 yards and a 5-post skeet 2G range).

After the 2-week hunt camps, bow hunting continues until mid-December for deer.

Ontario Fisheries Management Zone 15 - Muskie opens 1st Saturday in June and Bass opens the 4th Saturday in June.

Beach and Lakes:
Chandos Lake and North Beach is 11 minutes away - parking, sand beach, swim area, picnic area, public boat launch

Tallan Lake with public boat launch is just up Clydesdale Rd.

Jack Lake (folks around here like to call it Jack's Lake), Anchorage Marina, public boat launch

Join all the local cottagers who bike along County Rd. 620 - most are in serious biking gear and colours. However you bike, on whatever 2 wheels, enjoy the curves, hills, long stretches of open road, between Clydesdale Rd. and the 504 split (home coffee, eats, sweets, breads at the Border Town Market Cafe), and ride on the 504 along the south shore of Chandos Lake back into Apsley. Or, continue on the 620 to Coe Hill, and beyond to Ormsby, and The Old Hastings Mercantile Gallery.

join a Peterborough Meetup group for area walks and the Peterborough Crown Game Preserve

Peterborough Crown Game Preserve:
protecting approximately 15,268 hectares of forest land northwest of Burleigh Falls, the preserve provides a wildlife refuge for white-tailed deer, waterfowl and moose. There are ATV & snowmobile running through the area along with the Kawartha Nordic Trail system. Accessed from the south from Hwy 6, Hwy 28 in the west and Jake Lake and McCoy Rd in the north.
