Our home is nestled on the west slope of Burke MTN overlooking a pond, distant Darling Ridge and cool sunsets. Our "end of the road" outdoor paradise is walking distance to The Kingdom Trails, Burke's summit Red Trail and the VAST snowmobile trails!
You have your own private apartment within our house. Your access is through the front door which leads directly to your door into the apartment. This space is newly renovated and very clean. Ideal for two people, the bedroom (double bed)/bathroom (stall shower) area is behind the kitchen/living area with a counter and bookshelves that divide the two. There's a separate thermostat to regulate your heat, clean sheets, towels, extra blankets and pillows. The futon sofa can open up for a second bed if you're not a couple. The kitchen has all the basics for preparing meals along with a full fridge (no dishwasher).
Note: I recently added a layer of blackout material to the curtains for privacy along with a lock to secure the door and keep it from blowing open.
Guests have access to wireless internet where you can stream your own entertainment, Bose speaker system to play your own music, and upon request access to our TV room (the area you first walk into before going into the apartment) where we have Direct TV. Guests are welcome to enjoy the bounty from our organic garden, pick wild berries, swim in the pond, enjoy chairs on the terrace above the pond where there's a small fire pit and place to grill on a hibachi. I've also added a set of outdoor chairs and table at the top of the hill near the rocks for our guests to enjoy. Bikers are welcome to use our hose to wash their bikes and store their bikes in the shed. In the winter feel free to take a run on our toboggan.
We are right here if you are looking for tips about the Northeast Kingdom. Karen spent years interacting with guests at a local Inn and enjoys meeting new people. We all love to ride mountain bikes, ski, hike, run and are happy to help you find your way. We are generally up early and settle down early so you may hear some footsteps over head in the morning. We will respect your privacy and preference to be in your own space as desired.
I am somewhat flexible with arrival and departure times, so feel free to communicate your needs.
In the winter months it is necessary to have all wheel drive or four wheel drive to safely drive right up to the house where you have your own space to park. If you only have two wheel drive and good winter tires there is plenty of space to park at the bottom of the hill just below the house (about fifty yards or so). During big snowstorms you will want to speak with the host to be sure the driveway has been plowed.
>Late arrivals: try and get here no later than 10:00 PM
>Limit two people per stay.
>No smoking or pets.
>Please wash your own dishes thoroughly. ( I do not charge a cleaning fee in order to help make your vacation more affordable and my clean up easier-I am so grateful for your part in making that possible)
>Remove dirty shoes in entrance way. (the rug picks up stains easily)
If the heat is on please don't open windows.
>Try and remember to turn off lights when not in use - including outdoor light. Before you retire at night-lock the main door.
>We have had pipes back up and flood-PLEASE keep food scraps and grease from going down the drain and empty the debris in the garbage. (use paper towels to wipe any grease out of pans) Thank you for your help!
