Pet friendly forest cottage: Kayaking, world class skiing, hiking, mountain biking, Gold Rush era towns, and Lake Tahoe lie within a 10-45 minute drive. If you prefer the outdoors, or a quiet, cozy hide-out, this is the perfect landing pad. Fully equipped gourmet kitchen.
You will be staying in a cottage which was handcrafted by my husband and I. The kitchen is designed and outfitted with the gourmet in mind. The cottage contains: Keurig Coffee Maker (and pods), toaster oven, waffle maker, toaster, small food processor, crock pot, blender, pots and pans, pizza stone baking gear, rolling pin etc. If you need that a specific kitchen gadget, it is likely that we have it in the main home kitchen. Just ask.
The bedroom has a queen size bed with a loft with an additional queen futon with thick mattress top that will sleep two adults. Flooring is tile and hardwood. There is a large walk-in shower and enough storage to make your extended stay feel like home.
There is a washer and dryer with soap for the post mountain-bike-adventure laundry.
In the summertime, you can open every window and door to let the cool fresh mountain air pour in. In winter, the cottage is heated by a wood burning stove (wood provided) with a gas wall heater for back up.
You will have access to the entire cottage. The keypad code for your visit will be texted to you when you reserve your dates.
We respect your privacy. We will treat you as if the cottage is your home.
We are available in the mornings and evenings. If you have questions, come knock on the door of the log home next door or call.
During the day, call me on my cell phone and I will respond as quickly as possible
There is internet access for email and limited web browsing via a JetPak. Streaming is available using your smart phone as a hot spot. There is a stereo that is iPhone/iPad friendly into which you can wirelessly stream your favorite playlists.
We will treat you as friends and neighbors and we ask that you treat the cottage well.
Although our neighborhood is spread out, sound carries far in the forest so we ask for quiet hours between 10pm and 8am.
We are dog, cat, pet friendly and allow all four footed friends (or slithering friends, swimming friends...) AirBnB retains access to your funds up to $500 for pet damage. This is not accessed unless there is damage and no upfront deposit is required on your part.
Please keep animals out of the loft and OFF OF THE BEDS AND COUCH. If there is animal hair or smell on a bed or the couch please understand that there will be a $75 cleaning charge PER piece of furniture as it takes another three hours for our cleaning person to disassemble, wash, steam and reassemble the couch, for example, to get hair and smell out. We supply a dog or cat kennel for night time sleeping.... just bring their bedding so they feel at home!
As we live in forest/high fire danger area, please DO NOT SMOKE INSIDE OR WITHIN 25' of the cottage. Take a walk if you must smoke.
If you started your period in the night, please immediately hand scrub the stains out in COLD WATER and soap, just like you'd do at your house or your mom's. You are sleeping on expensive, high quality sheets.... we want you to be super comfy and also take care of them!
The damage deposit will not be used unless there is pet damage, smoking smells or ruined sheets. We have never had to access a deposit for damage and we don't expect to need it in the future. Thank you for treating our sweet mountain home like you would your home!
Janine has an eclectic resumé, from Founding Artistic Director of a non-profit arts organization, conductor and pianist, to dessert chef, plumber and quilter. She and her life-coach husband built their own home out in the middle of nowhere in the California Sierra. She did the wood work, tile and plumbing, and passed the plumbing inspection the first time around—the endeavor of which she is the proudest. They live with their white-swiss shepherds, Apollo and Athena, just a hop, skip and a jump away from their adult son and Donner Lake. She and her husband, Ken, co-own a strategic consulting firm for arts focused non-profit organizations. Ken and Janine love travel—near and far—and enjoy good food and wine, hiking, long distance walking, art, music and photography.
As hosts, we welcome you to an evening visit in the main house with a glass of wine and we also will respect your privacy—as you wish.
