Caters to nature lovers, divers, romantics...and well...you.
A unique hotel located in a tranquil Caribbean setting...where guests enjoy cleanliness, comfort, beautiful sunsets and an abundance of exotic marine life and birds just outside their door. This is a waterfront property with sunset views & a private dock located on a small coral island off the coast of Belize. The Double and the Queen rooms are air-conditioned efficiencies, with wifi, cable, microwave, coffee maker, mini fridge, toaster, safe drinking water and hot water. This is not a Caribbean party house, but caters to the nature lover, readers, divers and snorkelers, those seeking peace and quiet, mature couples. If you are looking for quaint, peaceful, clean and safe, away from the commercial area but still in the village, this is the place for you!
A fine guest house located on the laid back island of Caye Caulker, off the coast of Belize and close to the world's second largest living barrier reef. Leeside Rooms is a three bedroom, two-level house located just north of the water taxi pier on the quiet lee side of the village - two doors from Belize Diving Services. From Caye Caulker it is a 40 minute water taxi ride (or ten minute hop-plane ride) to the mainland of Belize where guests can enjoy zip-lining, cave tubing, explore Mayan ruins, eco-tour, go deep sea fishing, snorkel, dive, visit the zoo - or just read a book and relax. :)
We are pursuing a small marine sanctuary which is emerging right at the Leeside private dock area. Without even getting in the water you can enjoy observing black spiny urchins, sea horses, the odd-looking batfish, sting rays, juvenile barricuda, red snapper, crabs, infant conch, herons, egrets, and a host of other marine life in their natural habitat.
I am not always there, but Stacy, the operations manager, Guillerma-housekeeper are knowledgeable locals and are available. Both are able to answer any questions you may have about travel, cuisine, or…well…just about anything. Stacy is your go to person for finance, repairs or spa treatments, as she owns a local spa and salon.
If you have never been to Belize, you are in for a treat - this is a wonderful place. Most of our guests say our dock is their favorite place on the island, and many return year after year. However, Belize - though a lovely country - is not America or Europe; it is a developing country, and as such, there are many things we do not have control over. Nature and weather, power outages, inconvenient construction, noise, lack of services, crime, etc. Caye Caulker is a tiny island off the coast of Belize. Please, understand that if you are looking for all the comforts and luxuries you find in America, then you may want to stay in a resort on San Pedro or at an Americanized hotel on the island. Do your research. We try to keep our prices affordable, and ask that you conserve water and throw tissue in the garbage, not the toilet. If you are looking for a typical Caribbean rental, this may not be the place for you. However, if you like nature, quaint and charming rooms, peace and quiet and privacy, this is the place for you! Though normally quiet, it is not completely sound proof, and there is construction all over this tiny island all the time. One thing to note: There is a growing trend in the hospitality/ tourism industry of guests threatening to write bad reviews if their money is not refunded or discounted - we were recently victims of this, and now we no longer issue refunds, and especially for things we have no control over - noise, nature, construction on the island, bad weather, sand fleas or other bugs, allergic reactions, bad food, petty crime, or other bad experiences. Lock the doors, make sure no one follows you home, do not allow anyone in the house that is not a registered guest. Do not flash your wealth - smart phones, fancy cameras and electronics attract thieves and druggies. Take the same precautions and use the same wisdom as you would use in Jamaica or the British Virgin Islands. Like any Caribbean Island, Caye Caulker has its downfalls - and petty crime, extreme heat, bugs, lack of amenities, occasional loud music
(events), bad food, and construction noise are all a part of this island life. We work hard to ensure our guests are safe and happy, including recommending reliable tour guides and arranging transportation, and providing comfortable accommodations, but we cannot control every circumstance. If you are unhappy, let us know immediately and we will do our best to fix it! Thank you for choosing Leeside; we are committed to working hard to make this a wonderful experience for you!
Caye Caulker is laid back, but like any Caribbean island, wisdom is needed. Absolutely no unregistered guests or locals are allowed in your room or in the main house, and do not leave valuables - or shoes - lying around unsupervised anywhere in Belize. Be respectful of the property, neighbors and of the marine life. No parties on the property without permission from the manager.
