The Apartment
The apartment is a modern loft style studio above our garage and separated from our house.

A high curved ceiling and tall north facing windows provide a spacious sunny environment. The bed is queen size with high quality linen. The sitting area contains a 46" High definition LCD TV and a couch which folds out to a comfortable futon slat bed.

The kitchen is equipped with sink, fridge, 2 element cook top, microwave, and expandable dining table. There is a unique self contained wetroom ensuite - think bathroom on a boat. Egyptian Cotton towels are provided.

Outside is nicely landscaped with a big goldfish pond, a paved area, and plenty of shade provided by a feijoa and grapefruit tree, and an ancient plum tree.

A DIY continental breakfast with home baked bread is included, and feel free to use the BBQ. Free WiFi is provided.

The studio apartment is situated in sought after Pt Chevalier. We are located just 10 minutes by car to the City Centre and close to motorway links to the North Shore, West Coast beaches and vineyards, and all points south. It is also easy access to the airport motorway.
The nearest bus stop is located just 100m away. The bus into the city centre runs every 15 minutes and the journey is 15 to 20 minutes.

There is a dairy (7/11 store) and a fast food outlet conveniently located across the road. There are also several food outlets in the area including a nice Italian Restaurant just a 3 minute walk away. There are also 2 cafes within a 5 minute walk and its a 10 minute walk to Pt Chevalier shops where there are more cafes and restaurants, 2 pubs, a supermarket, pharmacy, post office and library. Mt Albert's 'little asia' is also a great place for budget eateries and its just a 5 min drive away.

A number of our guests find our studio perfectly located for visiting friends and relatives living at the Selwyn Village Retirement Complex, a 5 min walk away.

Unfortunately there is no disabled access and the room is not suitable for young children.

We provide transport to and from the Airport for a small charge. ($25NZ per trip)

Please note that we do NOT charge cleaning fees.

Our advertised price is all you pay to us, however Airbnb will add their booking fee.


Guests have full use of loft above the garage which is separated from our house by a landscaped yard and fishpond, so there is complete privacy. Guests are welcome to use the paved yard and lawn at the back of the garage.


We respect our guests privacy, but are available at any time for help and information.


The stairs to the loft are quite steep so may not be suitable for the infirm.
We are happy to help with the luggage at check-in.

We are on the corner of a through road so there is traffic noise as some reviews have noted. We have only had one elderly couple who found the noise intolerable, but if you are super-sensitive to noise please give this some consideration before you book.

I found the location to be really convenient - right on the 'orange' circular bus route that goes into the city and other inner suburbs, and connects with the 'green' inner circle route down Ponsonby Road etc. And also really handy to the motorway to drive north or south. I stayed 17 nights at Derek's place. Very comfortable and convenient.

Derek was a wonderful host. We especially loved waking up to the aroma of freshly baked bread, left at the bottom of the stairs with condiments, orange juice, fruit and cereal - a great way to start the day! Good location, easy to drive everywhere, and safe, off street parking.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the loft. It had all the utilities we needed and it was well maintained and we could tell that the place was taken care with love. We also loved the fresh bread every morning. Thanks for your hospitality Derek!

Recently retired architect. I've converted my office to this self contained studio apartment.
We're in a great area of Auckland, well served by transport, facilities, and natural amenities.
Maggie and I are young at heart and enjoy meeting travelers from all over.
Interests include travel, photography, cooking, cycling, restoring old bikes, and designing the perfect goldfish pond.
Like every Kiwi bloke, regards himself an ace on the BBQ.
Could be persuaded to whip up his signature smoked salmon. Price negotiable!
