Would you like a retreat from the world? Just some time to relax and unwind from the grind; bask in fresh air and bird song in a safe, quiet place not too far from the amenities? Whether solo or as a couple, one of my gl/camping sites may be your own personal nature cocoon to either restore you or start you on a journey of metamorphosis.
Whispering Winds, Spring Valley, MN is my own 3 acre slice of heaven in a valley with a creek that I love sharing with others who appreciate the simple life.

เกี่ยวกับที่พัก
The Romantic She Shed immerses you in nature and the animals on this farm. It includes a full view of the Rabbit Village (my answer to free range while trying to keep them safe from predators) adjacent to it - a view of the goings on of the baby goats, chickens, ducks and of course the rabbits!
It is an artsy, eclectic, romantic space. A healing refuge of tranquility nestled in the gardens. It has its very own fenced yard landscaped with edible and medicinal plants in ground and in containers. It is the most nature filled space I have right next to my Rabbit Village (bunnies, chickens, ducks, goats), birds nesting on the roof, and a family of stripey gophers beneath you! And it adjoins my private Dog/Children's Park!

This is Glamping in an 8' x 16' Romantic She Shed - Air conditioning, heat down to about 35 degrees F, minifridge, microwave, hot plate, coffee pot, picnic basket with tableware, pots and pans. And a cozy queen sized bed to nestle up in.

Outdoor cooking area with propane and charcoal grills (bring your own charcoal, propane provided) and private fire pit. Next to my fenced in private dog park which also features a children's play area. It has a view of the creek just 100' away.

No running water inside the cottage, but it is just steps away from a FLUSHING OUTHOUSE – A dream come true for me! - and an outdoor bath house where you can bring your solar shower, or use mine, and be naked in nature, yet private, seasonal according to the temperatures. Optional use of the Guest Bath in the main house for an extra fee of just $3 per bring your own towels, or $5 per use if I am laundering my towels after use.

My gardens peak in July and August. Everything is subject to upgrades. :-D

Memorial Day Weekend, 4th of July Weekend, Labor Day Weekend please book all three days!

WHAT to BRING? Just bring your sleeping bags/bedding, a lighter to start a fire/propane grill/charcoal. Charcoal fluid helps to start campfires. Ask if I have wood available or stop at our local bait shop for locally accessed firewood and a discount if you tell him you are staying at Whispering Winds, as you can't transport firewood across county lines or interstate in Minnesota. Drinking water, potable water in the main house kitchen or bring your own. Clothing, personal items, bug spray for yourself, bug spray for the cottage if you desire, food if grilling here, beverages of choice, coffee should you want it. Flashlight for nighttime trips to the outhouse, moonlight strolls and firelight games.

I have salt and pepper shakers, pots, pans, grilling utensils, utensils, paper plate holders (bring your own paper plates), cups, glasses, hot dog/marshmallow sticks, and most everything you need at your private camp. You MUST leave them clean when you leave! Dish pans, scrubbers, etc. provided. Hot water can be made in the coffee pot. Good quality aluminum foil can do wonders cutting down on the dishes as well as packing stuff ready to serve or put on the grill from home. If you can't find something, ask me. :-D

BRING YOUR OWN SLEEPING BAG OR BEDDING.

This is LEAVE NO TRACE CAMPING!

The $20 cleaning fee is REFUNDABLE if you LEAVE NO TRACE YOU WERE HERE and complete your stay by doing a review. You are responsible for leaving the space as you found it - clean - and bringing your trash up to the black trash can by the house. If I have to do your dishes, bring up your trash, wipe down the fridge, etc. I charge $30 an hour with a one hour minimum that I will request from you through Airbnb.

Life is all about EXPERIENCES!

You are here to relax and experience life on a Permaculture farmette, but there is more to do!

Fossil Hunts: I offer fossil hunts as featured on the TV shows Minnesota Bound and Due North in Wisconsin ($15 an hour per person 12+, children 7-11 $7.50 per hour, children 6 and under free, 3 hrs.). Maps for you to go fossil hunting on your own ($10 each). Check out my teaching yard for the fossil collections!

Fantasy Fotos/Cosplay Fun: Warrior/Valkyrie and Princess costumes ($20 per person to dress up and be photographed inside with a backdrop. $40 per person for an hour or so of fun fantasy in full regalia along the nature trail, at the Dragon Throne, in Norse Outpost or by the creek. Take as many pics as you like! I can do professional level photography for an added $40 and send you 6 of the best shots. I do not do your face paint but have everything here. Inclusion of animals costs more. Many of these are wardrobe quality outfits, real furs, swords are NOT for fighting with. You are responsible for damaged and lost items.

Photography: I love to take photographs and do some wonderful family photos super inexpensively - starting at just $40 edited with 6 of the best shots sent to you via email to do with as you please.

White Dove Releases: Whether for letting go or for a celebration ($20 for the first one and $5 for each thereafter).

Throwing Axes and Knives may be checked out for $20 per 1 hour increments to use at the target between the barn and detached garage. If you show that you can hit the target consistently, you may go back to Norse Outpost to access the throwing course of targets which is currently under construction. $10 per knife lost and $40 per ax lost. Not available if Norse Outpost is occupied, except to the occupants of it.

All experiences are expected to be paid in cash at time of service.

* I also have outdoor games, and a pack and play, to be checked out and returned complete and in good condition at the barn.

If you want an EXPERIENCE, garden tour, information on Permaculture, how to run a successful destination farm or a successful Airbnb, ecotourism, etc. please let me know ahead of time and I will try to accommodate you with compensation expected. And yes, we do small weddings here!
Cash is always preferred, but I do a lot of trading. :-)

Birds, Blooms & Butterflies is my tiny retail shop currently under renovation in the barn. Local artisans hand crafted items, and other little treasures when it is open.

RETREAT SITES AVAILABLE

Woods Edge Camp, is my private camp where I go when I need a sanctuary. This 7'x14' little lofted tiny house is an enchanting little cottage. You can relax on the couch that turns into a bed and see into the forest. It was even been successfully used as a recording and mixing studio by one of my guests for a mini album she created! :-D
Remodeled Vintage Camper is a dry (no running water) 25' fifth wheel camper that you can drive right up too.
Norse Outpost is located beside Woods Edge in back of the horse pasture and is me playing around with my Viking heritage. It has an ax and knife throwing targets. It opens directly into the woodland and is for tent campers at the moment as I am building a Viking Lodge! LOL :-D
The Balcony Suite Retreat is the top half of the Victorian Cottage that graces the entrance to Whispering Winds and is available for longer stays, should you too need a retreat from the world, be going to Mayo, waiting to close on a house, or between leases. It is sometimes open between guests for overnight and short stays.
Outback Quarters is the Nature-inspired bonus room in the attached garage in the main house. It too is for short term stays and sometimes by the night.

Check out the host profile for more information. :-)

I am a disabled grandmother with health problems. I make ends meet by letting out my little cottages. You are receiving way more amenities and privacy than you would at any State Park or Campground for the money - be considerate of my efforts! Cleanliness is like a State Park cabin - casual, not pristine. This is CAMPING in a LARGE WOODEN TENT.

This is my HOME and you are my GUESTS. :-D

I truly enjoy meeting the individuals and families who visit here.

As a disabled grandmother, two strokes at 55, the way I'm able to sustain Whispering Winds (what I choose to call the healing zephyrs that emanate from this land) is with the help of the people who stay here. Please follow these guidelines, leave no trace you were here, and enjoy the serenity, privacy and healing this mini farm offers. :-D

NO GUESTS are allowed at Whispering Winds without express permission from me! Airbnb's insurance covers ONLY your presence here. I have a $10 per guest with a 4 hour limit fee payable in cash when you clear your guest with me.

“LEAVE NO TRACE” is a common camping practice and an ecologically sound principle. It means exactly what it says, you leave no trace you were ever here. Leave the place you stayed clean and organized like you found it. Take your garbage, etc. with you when you leave or deposit in the garbage receptacle by the house, please. If you rearranged things, put them back the way they were. Do your dishes.

THE FLUSHING OUTHOUSE: YOU plug it up, or one of your party; YOU snake it out. “Leave No Trace in the Outhouse” means exactly that. There is a toilet snake in the outhouse should you stop up the toilet. Leave the toilet CLEAN, please. If I have to unstop the toilet, it will be a $30 fee, minimum!!! If you or your children dropped something in the toilet (toy or tampon) where I have to call a handyman out - $100 plus.

The private toilets are “bag it” style similar to cleaning up after your dog. Put your doo in the black bag outside the outhouse and take it with you or bring it to the black garbage can by the house and put it into it. If you leave your biologic waste for me to pickup a $30 fee will be charged.

Pick up your dogs doo or be fined your cleaning fee. I'm not charging a dog fee, so be considerate of me, my property, and the other campers with children.

Please take your baby diapers WITH YOU! You aren't paying for an infant, so don't load up my trash, or pay $10 extra for your child.

Do NOT bring firewood from out of the county. In the state of Minnesota it is illegal to cross county lines with firewood due to the emerald ash borer infestation. I often have firewood available, but not always. S & S Baitshop has locally accessed firewood for sale as well. You may NOT harvest wood or downed branches here.

Do NOT dig up plants, tromp on plants and flowers, etc. Please stay to the trails and fish without trampling the plants that are there as an erosion control “green buffer” barrier. Don't like the flowers along the creek? Please go downstream in the city park to fish.

DO NOT go into the pasture, barn, etc. Artemis or Athena are guard goats! You Will be Attacked with horns - they know how to use them!

ALL DOGS must be leashed outside of my private Dog Park, or your private camp or kennel, which is also a play area for the children. Pick up their doggie doo, so no one steps in it. DO NOT leave your dog(s) in your cottage while you are gone. They often bark and damage items. An outdoor kennel has been provided for that purpose. Spring Valley has a barking ordinance. Please be sure your dog is quiet.

NO HITTING ZONE! I do NOT allow hitting, bullying or verbal drama here.

FISHING THE EXTENDED SEASON TROUT STREAM: You must have a Minnesota Fishing License and a Trout Stamp to fish here. Catch and Release ONLY unless you are going to eat it here. Barbless hooks! We have both native and stocked Rainbow trout, Brown trout and even Brook trout in the creek.

There are cameras that show and record the actions of guests at the main house, garage and barn.

DISCLAIMER: Minnesota is subject to all 4 seasons – Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter. We are frost free generally from May 12th to Sept. 15th. My flowers peak in July and August. We experience storms and high winds here which can cause damage, limbs to break from trees, even cause trees to fall. The creek does occasionally flood leaving mud and debris. Insects and wildlife abound here. Flies are common around livestock. Fireflies will not hurt you, but those Asian ladybugs do bite as do the "no see'ums". Trees, flowers, and grasses produce pollens. We have owls and the occasional serenade of coyotes at night. Birds wake up early in the morning, so just expect bird song. We have chipmunks and squirrels that scurry around. Animals, wild and domestic, leave manure droppings. Watch where you are walking and don't wear good white shoes to a farm. Also, this is my home and I have lots of projects. :-D

DO NOT come here if you have any kind of allergies!

I am Beverly, the Steward of this lovely homestead. Whispering Winds is what I call the healing zephyrs that emanate from this bit of Mother Nature. It is more than my home, it is my haven in this world as I grow old. My background is teaching, sustainable ag, and tourism. So, I can point you to unique experiences all over Bluff Country and the reason why my heart goes to ECOTOURISM.

This land is in search of an additional, or new, steward. Permaculture landscape with a Food Forest that is mostly organic. Mature landscape with garden rooms. Established perennial flower beds. Nature trail along the creek. Stocked trout stream on premises. Surrounded on three sides by woods. Adjacent to Spring Valley Creek Park and 8 mile RT paved walking/biking trail. Working homestead, greenhouses, popup shopping with retail space, established Superhost Airbnb since 2016. Whispering Winds is featured on the outdoor adventure shows Minnesota Bound (Behind the Scenes with Laura Schara podcast too) and Due North for Fossil Hunting. Lots of opportunities to expand or work 5 months and enjoy 7 months off every year. Upstairs 2 room en suite with balcony available. Three surveyed acres with six lots. I would just like to go back to being the gardener here. :-D

I have become a Farm Stay Consultant in self-defense of the guests who come here in the expectation of picking my brain on how to create a successful farm stay. $100 for one hour of my time on farm stays that will save you thousands of dollars, mistakes and frustration, and help you to become a Superhost within 6 months and love what you are doing! It helps if I know ahead of time and you send me some pics of your place and a list of questions we can chat about when you get here. :-D

The animals here are my companions and this is their home. Please treat them with care and dignity. Nearly all are special needs, and that is one reason why I share my little slice of heaven with you, is to take care of them. All the creatures here have stories and memories to make with you.
