Camping Details:
No Trace Left Behind Policy
Please remember that the camp is a camp, not a cabin, so there is no linen or housekeeping, etc. As in the woods, whatever you bring in, you should bring out as well. Make sure all is in order for the next camper.

Water
The pump out front by the road is brackish water, only good for cleaning. (but perfect to fill the solar showers in the camp). There are containers for potable drinking water under the sink in the kitchen area.

Outhouse
There will be no missing the outhouse, and there is some lime in there to help keep things clean after use!
Please remember there are campers after you, so the outhouse should be in good condition for the next person.

Things you will need to bring:
The camp has no refrigeration, no electricity, no running water, no (URL HIDDEN) you will need
coolers with ice for your food, sleeping bags –or- sheets or pillowcases for your beds, towels, toiletries etc. flashlights too ! especially for trips out to the outhouse.
(There is a queen size bed in the "Captain's Quarters")
In the bunkroom. There are 6 navy bunk beds, an odd size, a bit bigger than a twin.
with the 6 bunk beds there is a cabinet with some items you might find helpful- cushions for the wicker chairs, and the propane lantern. Toilet paper is in here as well, brining extra toilet paper is not a bad idea. Feel free to look through anything in the cabinets you might find useful, just make sure they are returned to their place before you leave, to keep the occasional squirrel or mouse from getting into them.
(There are not critters running rampant around the camp, but they do find their way in from time to time and we keep our food wrapped up tight to not attract them !

Solar Showers
There is a hook behind the camp for the solar showers, (solar showers are hanging on the hook near the "Porter and Leighton sign") To fill the solar shower, you can use the brackish water pump out front, or any water you want, but using the brackish water helps you conserve your fresh potable water. After filling, keep the showers in the sun on the lawn, black side down, and
On a very sunny day, they can be good and hot in just 2 hours.
Go behind the camp to shower, and you should see the blue inflatable shower closet.
Hang the shower bag on the hook and you can have some kind of privacy here.

Fireplace
The wood stacked in the camp is for your use. You will need some kind of kindling an/or newspapers to start your fire. If you have a fire going, please stay in the camp to watch it.

Gas Stove
The Gas stove is a “pilotless” gas stove, so you need to light it every time you use it, and make sure it’s turned off when you are done. Only the 4 burners on the stovetop work, not the oven.

We absolutely enjoyed the pristine water views of the ocean from the over-sized window every morning while enjoying our coffee. The camp is quaint and rustic, no amenities but we felt like it had it all, with a lantern for light and a clean outhouse and access nearby to get water for washing etc it is all you need. We slept great in the more than comfortable beds and loved the ocean breeze and sounds throughout the night. We loved it , a great find ! We swam, fished, hiked all around the area its a great down east location. My 12 year old son never got bored he rode his bike down the roads , fished off the cliffs, chased crabs , swam etc. so much to do you don't miss "wifi' etc . Thank You Lance, Kat and Troy Windham , Maine

Sherwood Shelter Camp is a lovely and peaceful setting! We enjoyed the nostalgic character of the cottage and the beautiful view through the picture window. The cottage is cozy and well-supplied. We swam from the beach, explored two nearby islands at low tide and went to Acadia Nat. Park by taking the ferry from Winter Harbor. Thank you for sharing your special spot!

My girlfriend and I were looking for the perfect end of the summer getaway from Brooklyn. This was exactly that! The cabin was so comfortable. We loved having the fireplace at night and the scenery was beautiful - right on the water. We didn't miss electricity at any point and wish we stayed longer. Thanks Theresa and Lee for the Maine experience we were looking for :)
