Take a journey back in time in the comfortable guest room in our colonial-era Georgian farmhouse. Our country home includes period charms like wide wooden floorboards, an original beehive oven, and parson's cupboard used during colonial times.
Our guest room is in the middle of the first floor of our house, separated from the rest of the bedrooms. There is a half bath that is primarily used by the guests right outside the bedroom door. The shower is located in another bathroom two rooms away on the same floor. The queen-size bed is made up with crisp white linens and our guests tell us it is very comfortable. The room also includes a clock radio with a jack to plug in an iPhone. During the summer, a fan or window air conditioning unit is available to keep the room comfortably cool.
The guest room attaches via a small hallway to a formal living room. Our guests often like to use this as their own private sitting area, as our family rarely uses it. We can easily add a twin mattress to this room and have a child sleep on the couch, making it suitable for a family of two adults and two children. If you have additional adults, let us know and we can discuss options for housing your group.
This is a place where you can relax in a spacious yard, surrounded by towering spruce and maple trees. Or maybe you prefer to sit and read a book beside a babbling brook filled with koi fish.
Each season here has its own appeal. During the summer we love to grab an ice cream at Durham DariServe or drive 25 minutes down to Hammonassett State Beach. Fall means amazing maples dropping their jewel-colored leaves or taking in a Yale football game down in New Haven. In winter we can ice skate on frozen ponds in Durham or nearby Middlefield and then warm up with hot chocolate and nutella crepes at our favorite local coffee shop, Perk on Main. The comes spring and everything returns to life. Our yard looks like a Monet painting, with pastel leaves pushing their way out of the wooden branches.
Please feel free to contact us with questions. We look forward to hosting you soon!
Guests enjoy free wifi and the run of our 1 1/3 acre property.
We are delighted to incorporate guests into our family life or give them their space. This is a very family-friendly property (we have three children of our own!), but we have also been happy to host couples looking to enjoy time away. You are welcome to join in our routines -- enjoying a shared television with cable or cooking in our modern kitchen. If you prefer, we're also happy to give you your space. It's up to you!
We share our home with Luther, a lazy Bassett hound.
We are flexible about most things. Just a couple of absolute dealbreakers. We ask that you not smoke in or near the house. We also ask that you are reasonably quiet between 10 pm and 7 am. We expect our children to do the same! A note about the kids: our children are generally well-behaved, but they are children and they make normal kid noises. We ask that they are quiet upon waking, so they should not disrupt your sleep.
We are a friendly, active family: dad, mom, and three kids, ages 16, 13, and 11 as well as a lazy Basset hound. We are transplants to Connecticut from California and we are delighted to share our historic home with others.
Our own recent travels include a 200-plus mile bike tour from Budapest to Vienna, as well as trips to France, Spain, Italy, and Switzerland.
