By far the worst possible experience with an airbnb host.
The room is centrally located, two minutes walking from the Fontainebleau chateau, and is just sufficient for one person.
The space is clean and well maintained. And that concludes the good part of the review.
I had booked the place from 4th till 20th, but due to some personal issues could only come and stay from 9th. That I ended up leaving just a few days later, having been insulted by the host, is another matter. While the website mentions a strict cancellation policy, most hosts are amiable and understanding enough to consider a discount, since I ended up staying for less than 20% of the days booked. However, Fanny refused outright, pointing to the fact that since I had booked using airbnb I had read and made myself aware of all terms and conditions, therefore the question of a discount doesn't arise.
During my stay here, one of my friends had a scare at her place in Fontainebleau (her safety was compromised hence she insisted on leaving her place the same evening). Since it was difficult to find another rental the very same day (hotels in town were full that night), I offered to host her for a few days till we could find either a hotel or another rental for her.
Next morning, Fanny came and made a big scene within the house. Her grievance was that the place was rented for one person and so a second person could not stay. In a normal conversation one expects to have a chance to explain one's point of view, and then maybe have a discussion, to arrive at a mutually acceptable conclusion. In this case, it was all Fanny. After insulting me and my friend for over ten minutes, when she stopped for breath, I tried explaining that this is an exceptional unforeseen situation that we are trying to resolve. At this, she again started off on her tirade. The 'discussion' ended with her giving me an ultimatum to ask my friend to move out the same day, or she will ask her husband to intervene.
Fortunately, we were able to find rooms at ibis hotel the same day, so were spared of the ordeal of having to go back to the same place. I also took up a room there, as the thought of going back to the same place was unbearable.
The whole episode left such a bad taste, it ended up ruining my balance time at Fontainebleau completely. Needless to say, I had to apologize to my friend who got insulted by someone she would never have met, for absolutely no fault of hers.
Don't stay here if this is the last airbnb in Fontainebleau.
