The landlady renting these apartments was very nice and seems to genuinely like people. She made sure via the app that I had made it in okay even though I was in town, and even told me about the local bus finder app "BusTracker Taichung" to help me get around. The room was very clean and well maintained, and had everything listed, as well as a few additional things like extra blankets in the closet. The air conditioner was modern and in good condition. Although it says toiletries and bedding supplies not provided, there were lots of bedding supplies, and a 5 minute trip to the corner store took care of toiletries. The neighborhood was very poor, but didn't seem dangerous, and the people loved plants; there were potted plants several rows deep along the fronts of many buildings. I was in the "art market" district, so there were tons of artists; particularly sculptors and woodworkers, as well as a street where tourists could buy local and imported artistic goods. Food carts came out in the evening, selling rice with meant, egg, and vegetables for very cheap prices to people coming back from work. Of course there were lots of restaurants and stuff as well. The university was a ways off on foot, but not a long trip once I figured out how to use the bus. The apartment was small, and it took some time to learn to navigate around effectively without speaking/reading Chinese(used a LOT of (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) translate), but overall it was a very good experience.
We had a nice stay here! The apartment is very close to Art Street, but a good 15-20 minute walk to DongBie and even further for someone who needs to be at the university every day. It was a little hard to find at the beginning. The room itself is much smaller than it appears to be in the picture, as is the bed. It is really only suitable for one person, or two very small people. It also got very very cold in the room (15 degrees one night) and there was no heat. The apartment across the hall always smelled heavily of smoke and would seep into our room. All of our stuff ended up smelling like smoke and we had a headache, but opening the windows helped a little. That being said, our landlord was wonderful! She brought us blankets and sleeping bags when it got too cold, and she was always available to talk on the phone if we needed anything. She also responds to emails very promptly. She was very helpful and patient, especially during the booking process. Although there were a few bad things, our stay here was great, especially since it was so cheap. The price definitely makes it all worth it, and I would stay here again!
The host of this studio was super sweet! She helped us find the place and connect to the wifi and even helped with figuring out the bus schedule. The place is a great size for one guest. We squeezed two people in there, which is fine as long as you are prepared to be cozy. The neighborhood is a little far outside of downtown Taichung, but it is a few blocks from a really active art district. It is also very close to a university so there is yummy cheap food pretty late into the evening. The buses are free up to a certain distance so we were able to get everywhere we needed to by just swiping our Easy Card.
