***Update! We are updated the house with new furniture in the downstairs bedrooms. We just upgraded to a brand new queen bed in the Master bedroom, and added a queen in the 2nd downstairs bedroom. In addition to new beds we added new ends tables, lamps, and other furnishings to make the home even more enjoyable and comfortable during your stay. We can now sleep up to 6 adults in private bedrooms.***The house, originally a cabin, was converted into a two bedroom year-round home in the 1980s. You walk into the main floor that features a full-sized kitchen, a full bath, and lovely open dining room and living room that walks out onto a gorgeous deck. The living room also has a Hearthstone wood stove available for use in the colder months (November-March). There is a sleeper sofa in this area that sleeps 2.
A spiral staircase takes you up to the loft room, which has a full-sized bed and skylights.
Heading down the spiral stairs you will find another bedroom with a queen sized bed with an attached full bathroom, and a third bedroom with a twin bed and room for one twin air mattress, that is provided. The downstairs master bedroom has a queen sized bed, gym quality treadmill, a walk in closet and sliding doors that access the lower deck and yard. Take the stone path down to the dock to Ashford Lake, a small and peaceful private lake. We have two kayaks available for guest use, a hammock, a fire pit and some outdoor seating.
A clothes washer and dryer are located in the kitchen pantry area.
There is free parking for two vehicles adjacent to the house.
Take the stone path down to the dock and find a hammock, a fire pit, and two kayaks, all for your private use.
You will also have access to the private beach minutes down the road.
There is free wifi in the house, as well as Amazon FireTV(Netflix, AmazonPrime), DVD player, and a selection of movies, music and board games. There is a CD player and AM/FM stereo combo.
In the winter time you will also have access to the garage if snow is in the forecast.
We try and meet all guests at check-in, and give tips about the house. If for some reason we can’t make it over, we live close by, and if you need anything during your stay we are a short drive away.

The area is flush with wildlife- birds, woodpeckers, bunnies, deer, turtles- we also have an outdoor cat that you will see roaming about on the property, or out on the deck.
The lake is quite a different place in the winter compared to other seasons. The lake itself freezes, and the only activity on it is the occasional ice fisher and perhaps some skaters. Our rule of thumb is that we don’t go out on the ice unless others are already out. We advise people to use extreme caution on and around the lake at all times and do not take responsibility for our guests use of the lake or any accidents associated with use of the lake or our equipment.
If you are traveling with children, contact me and I will send you a special offer. We charge extra per night for more than 4 adults, but if you are a group of 6 traveling with 2 or more children it will not be any additional money per night. Baby gates, pack n play, and high chair are available at no charge with prior notice.
We have a NEST thermostat for controlling the heat and air conditioning. Many times we have found that either is left on when guests leave and running for days when the house is vacant. Although you can set the temperature to your desired setting for heating and cooling, we do monitor it remotely and as that you use turn it heat or air conditioning down if you will be out of the house for a time. We tend to set the house to 68 degrees in the winter and 70 in the summer when using the A/C. At night, it helps to warm the lower level if you turn on the house fan, which is controlled through the thermostat. If you are cold on the lower level please let us know and we will help.
We hope you will come and experience the tranquility and beauty of our home and the surrounding area. We are not looking to rent to those who are planning to have loud parties or make excessive noise. There are no gas-powered boats on the lake, so it is very peaceful. Guests are welcome to use the boats provided, but no outside boats may be brought to the lake. Though we will rent to responsible families with children, the house does not accommodate more than 8 people total. Wipes and sanitary items should not be flushed in any of the house toilets. There is no smoking allowed in the house, and we also do not allow pets. We reserve the right to ask people who aren't following the rules and guidelines to vacate before the end of their stay without a refund.
Please see the complete house manual before your stay.
I work part-time in the non-profit sector as a case manager for the northern quiet corner juvenile review board, and my husband works for the United States Geological Survey as a research hydrologist. We live in Woodstock, CT, and have a 6 year old daughter and 1.5 year old son. We love to travel, and we are excited help people experience the quiet corner of CT by offering our home(s)!
I love hosting on airbnb, and started as a part of my family business in Salem, MA. My mom started a bed & breakfast there, and it was with her that I learned "the ropes." Now my brother & sister in law run the family biz, and you can find them on airbnb too!
As fun as hosting is, I am a traveler at heart! I have stayed at airbnb properties in New York City, Florida, Milan, Florence, Paris, Assisi, and right next door in Southbridge, MA! We are excited to take our next airbnb adventure in Ireland this summer!
I love being part of the new era of shared resources-sharing houses, cars, whatever! It's green and it's good. :)
