Tranquil, contemporary lofted back house in hip, leafy east austin just a few blocks both from the lake/trail and also famous Laundrette restaurant. Several more blocks to Le Barbacue and lots of other bars and restaurants along Caesar Chavez. East 6th is just a short walk beyond that. Downtown/SXSW venues a very short bike ride or drive. Private, small, lofted, sunny, tranquil garage apartment and yard are all yours during your stay!. The loft is perfect for one person or a couple!
This is a tranquil, contemporary stand-alone small lofted structure at the back of a larger property in beautiful east austin. The loft and yard are for your use. Available for SXSW and other times throughout the year when I am out of town.
The property is in a leafy neighborhood one block from the lake. It just a mile east of downtown on the hike/bike trail that goes around the lake and to downtown. It is a short bike ride (ask about including a bike!) or walk to bars, restaurants, SXSW venues, and downtown/convention center. Driving to all of the above takes about 5 minutes. 10 minutes drive to airport.
This is a unique property. It has its own entrance off of the alley. After parking in the carport (for your use only, can fit 2 cars) you enter the private yard via a metal, privacy fence. Once in the private yard with a picnic table, hammock, fire pit, grill, and chairs, you go up a spiral staircase to a shallow balcony with chairs and a small table.
From there you enter the loft (you are above carport on second story). The loft has many windows and a view of the lake, but is very private as it is in the trees. The door opens into the galley kitchen (the refrigerator is euro-size) and well-organized but intimate living space (2 couches - black one pulls out futon-style, chair, table, TV) off of that. Bathroom, which is quite small, is off kitchen. It has a sink, a rudimentary and very small older shower (no tub), and a washer/dryer. Up a short but steep flight of stairs is a small lofted area with a low ceiling. It overlooks the main space. It just fits its queen-sized bed and a desk/study area. There is another small shallow balcony off of the loft that overlooks the yard.
The space is tranquil and contemporary, filled with art, books, and objects. If Ikea helped you design a tree house, it might look something like this.
Bus stop is several blocks away. Restaurants and bars of east 6th/ east austin are a short 10 or 20 minute walk. It is possible to arrange a bike for your stay, please inquire!
Place includes fully-equipped kitchen with microwave and dishwasher, wireless internet, washer/dryer, queen-sized bed, clean sheets/towels, yard, covered parking, heat/ac wall unit, cieling fan. It is a well-designed, intimate space. The only room with closed doors is the bathroom. It is perfect for one person or a couple and it could accomdate 2-3 more if you didn't mind very close quarters.
Please contact me with any questions you might have.
The loft and yard are all yours during your stay!
I will not be present during your stay, but am always available for questions!
This is a beautiful, quiet, peaceful, art-filled place by the river and all the east austin/downtown action. It is perfect for someone (or a couple), who wants a comfortable, quiet, contemporary space with the advantage of being walking distance from east austin bars/restaurants and near downtown and the airport.
The loft is small. It is great for one person or a couple. Make sure to read the full description to get a sense of the layout so you know what to expect.
Keep in mind that this is my home, not a full-time rental. It is comfortable and well-organized, and filled with my books, art, objects, etc. Given the many objects in the loft, and that I often leave the windows/doors open when possible, it is not dust-free. Keep this in mind. The loft is well-cared-for and clean, but unlike a hotel room or full-time rental it is lived-in.
Parties are not permitted, nor is excessive noise after 9pm.
I have a dog, but she is not included in your stay (unless you would like her to be). My place is clean and she is not permitted on any furniture, but do consider this if you are sensitive to animals.
The heating/cooling unit in the loft is an older Euro-style wall unit and its motor is audible when running (like a window unit). It is not quiet like a central heating/air system. You may wish to sleep with earplugs. If you are sensitive to such things, consider this.
Dogs are welcome for a pet fee ($25 per pet for the length of your stay) and bikes may be rented for a nominal fee as well ($15 per bike for the length of your stay) .
I am working on my PhD in art history and traveling often for work and fun. I love my little casita on the lake in downtown/east Austin. It is one of the best places I've ever lived. When I am not writing or reading about contemporary art, I am gardening, swimming, kayaking, hiking, walking, playing tennis, rock-climbing, visiting the bars and restaurants of east Austin, and telling my dog (chocolate lab) how amazing she is.
