Just a 15 minutes beautiful walk to Coffee Bay we live in a peaceful village. You will be the only tourist here. Xhosas plowing their gardens and thatching the roofs. You watch the sheep passing by and starring at you. Raptors hunting young chickens and a large variety of birds visiting. Children walking to school and doing nonsense. If you want to experience the real Africa, but prefer to have a bit comfort (hot shower & bath, fridge, flush toilet, jungle shower) then you are right here !
The round hut is part of a homestead of 3 huts and one square building. It is in a rural African village with scattered homesteads on grass hills, 500m from the coast line and 1500m to the main beach. Our new highlight is the outside shower! Alicia can prepare a dinner for you, if you let her know one day in advance. It is a good option especially for the first evening. It's 60 to 100 rand per person. Fresh fish or cray fish if available.
It is a beautiful place in a real african village.
The round hut was only finished in February 2014. Since February 2016 it has got tiles on the floor. There is no electricity yet, but in the other huts there is. There is a battery light.
The kitchen is in a separate building about 20 meters away from the hut. You can use the kitchen, which is for everyone. It has got electricity, a gas stove and a washing machine. You will have your own private small fridge. We have got a large chest freezer, were you can store your frozen food. In the kitchen building is a bathroom with hot shower and hot bath. It has got a flush toilet.
Since April 2016 we have got an outside shower which is great. The water only heats up a bit in a black water tank depending on the sun. If you prefer you can wash in a water basin, boiling the water in a water kettle.
The last 500 meters access road leading to our huts is just for high clearance cars, if wet a 4x4 is needed. You can park your car just at the turn off inside our neighbors yard. We will pick you up by feet or with a 4x4, if available.
To prepare you stay we can communicate via email and to phone in the early evening (5 to 7).
While staying here you can talk to us straight or whats up or phone. Whatever suits you.
We will provide you with nice rain water from our tank. You will get a power bank to charge your phone with your usb cable.
I am a German doctor working in the clinics around Coffee Bay. I like the rural life among the Xhosa. I like the friendly and uncomplicated life style of the Amamxhosa. I like good and fresh food. I like my garden a lot and to plant trees. I have got chickens and 10 sheep.
My wife Alicia is a real Xhosa woman, who grew up in this village. She has worked in a hostel before and knows how to cook and to care for guests. She is running a small spaza shop in the village, were she sells basic food and needs of the village people. She is talkative and very fresh. She is a very friendly, laughing a lot and likes to dance as well. She is smiling a lot and she is very organized.
We have got a large African family with many kids. Besides caring for the kids, our garden and animals we like to escape and to visit other places. We are a bit picky when it comes to choosing a right place and often we go to guest houses. We expect the rooms to be clean and the location to be quiet. We like to have our privacy and to be left on our own, but we like to chat with the people of the guest house by times as well.
