Surrounded 360 degrees by Joshua Tree National Park and conservation parcels, Think Tank is a one-minute hike into the park or a one mile drive into the main park entrance, but only four miles to downtown Joshua Tree. The nearest visible structure is almost a quarter of a mile away, and the night skies are very dark: yet this home is easily accessed by car and in the secure Monument Manor area. In order to encourage wildlife, every effort has been made to keep the grounds open and natural. In contrast, the interior offers polished concrete floors and Jenn Air appliances including a gas cooktop, fridge with ice maker, and a dishwasher. There's a foam topper on the queen bed offers firmness options. Amenities include wifi, air conditioning, gas heat, basic cable TV, on demand hot water, glass shower, laundry, cookware, an assortment of spices, oils, coffeemaker, coffee and tea, large stone fire pit, drum and weber BBQs, ranch style wood fired outdoor soaking tub, and critter pond. Visitors have private enjoyment of the 5 gated acres and adjacent open 7.5 acres, to be shared only with tortoises, coyotes, bobcats, hawks, eagle, quail, jackrabbits, seasonal wildflowers, and more. Think Tank is 100% solar with automated generator back-up. Intimate and romantic, this home is suited for one person or a couple but not for larger groups. Country mouse, city mouse...can't decide which I'd rather be. But in Joshua Tree, there's no need to choose! The area offers an eclectic mix of urban and down home: my aim is to offer the best of both worlds in the three luxe cabins which stole my heart with their secluded wilderness settings or sweeping views.
By trade I'm an LA based set designer with an addiction to contemporary art, modernist design, handmade craft objects, vintage furnishings and everything in between. My goal is to have guests experience my homes on a personal level as if they were their own, and to provide a comfy base for life in our special desert doing all of the things that I enjoy: hiking, stargazing, soaking in the tub or sun, stepping out for some live music, enjoying home cooked meals, watching movies, prowling second hand stores, working remotely via internet or just staring out the window to watch the light changing on the hills.
In six years of doing vacation rentals I've met some amazing folks from all points of the globe who I now call friends. Their repeat visits and referrals have been so gratifying.
Here a picture of me unwinding, just a few steps off the back edge of one of the Joshua Tree National Park!
