Situated in the quaint, picture postcard village of Thornton-le-Dale, this link-detached holiday home has been restored to a good standard by the present owner, creating a spacious house, perfect for that family holiday. Waters Edge is just a short stroll from the village shops and local pub. The village has everything you could need, yet still retains its picturesque village beauty, with the chocolate box thatched cottages and the Almshouses running in front of the village green. The village pond, which is always popular with children, who go and feed the ducks and wildlife. The quaint Thornton Beck runs through the village, and also runs directly outside the rear of the cottage. On the village green there’s the original stocks and market cross. During the summer months a band plays music to entertain you whilst you sit back and enjoy one of the wonderful ice creams the village is well known for. There is an enclosed garden to the front of the property which is nice and ideal for children, or a pet to play, or if you prefer, you can sit at the rear of the property, overlooking the beck, feeds the ducks and watch the world go by.
The village lies on the edge of the North York Moors National Park and you are just a short drive from the Dalby Forest, with over 8,000 acres of woodland to enjoy. In the forest there’s lots of woodland trails as well as the fantastic mountain bike trails. The forest was once home to the World Championship mountain bike competition and has something for everyone, from gentle rides to the more exhilarating and challenging routes. Within the forest there’s a visitors centre, picnic areas, bikes to hire as well as the popular ’Go Ape’ which is a fantastic activity for the children and adults alike.
This is an ideal base to visit the east coast, the North York Moors and the Yorkshire Wolds. Just along the road you have the bustling market town of Pickering where every Monday they hold the market day. Pickering is home to the North York Moors steam railway which travels across the rugged moors to Whitby, stopping at Goathland, the fictional village of the popular TV programme, Heartbeat. Flamingo Land theme park and zoo are just a 10-minute drive away. Here the children can enjoy the large zoo and have a go on the exciting rides. The seaside resorts of Filey, Scarborough and Flamborough are just 30 minutes away with great sandy beaches, perfect for that family holiday. Beach 15 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 200 yards.
