Clean air and pure water, silence and seclusion in a comfortable retreat cabin on a forested mountain top in pine, fir and oak.

This rustic one-room cabin, 16x16, is located on a remote forty-acre wildlife sanctuary on a forested mountaintop in pine, cedar and fir, and is surrounded by the Shasta/Trinity National Forest. There's a two-basin sink in the kitchen area with cold running water and a propane three-burner stove with oven. Also, cooking ware, tableware, flatware, fridge with freezer, wood stove for heat, double bed, pillows, sheets and towels, a table, chairs, and mountain view, flowers in window boxes, electricity, propane, firewood and garbage removal provided, a secluded area nearby for exclusive use by Heart Cabin guests. Dirt roads, privy and outdoor baths make for simplicity of living. Bathing area is located on the rim of the canyon looking beyond the far ridge to the Chanchellula Wilderness. Water is pumped and heated by solar energy. Shower and twin bathtubs are side by side. Unfortunately only Verizon cell phone service is available, not AT+T. Wi-Fi can be accessed via your mobile hotspot. Occasional dinners can be ordered, served by our accomplished chef with our own organic produce in season. Off the property there are abandoned logging roads for biking and hiking, rivers for swimming. It’s a forty minute drive to the town of Hayfork for supermarkets, clinic, restaurants, bars, coffee shop, health food store, Farmer’s market on Fridays.
15 day stay or any part thereof is $524 before fees; 30 day stay or any part thereof is $824 before fees.
In their reviews earlier guests have remarked about shortages of power at the cabins and hot water at the bathing area. We have remedied these problems and power is now available around the clock at the cabins and hot water is in plentiful supply in the bathing area in the afternoons.
Please take a look at our two further listings, Shasta Cabin and Sky Lodge for alternative accommodations.
We look forward to hosting you for a peaceful stay in nature.

We're available for help throughout your stay and enjoy socializing with you but only if you wish. Some guests prefer to remain in silence and communicate their needs through written notes left in an agreed-upon location.

My stay at the Heart Cabin was everything I wanted it to be and more. I was greeted on my arrival by Dolphin. He checked in with me how much solitude I needed for my retreat, made sure I had everything I needed, and was such a warm and welcoming presence. The cabin itself is pure magic - waking up to see the sunrise from the bed every single day was amazing. I was there to take a break from city life to read and paint and reflect. There was ample space to do all my projects. The land is beautiful. The shower is outside overlooking the canyon. There's places to take nice walks and sit among the chipmunks and the birds. Everything about my stay was wonderful. The property is quite remote and there's some rough terrain to get there. I don't have 4 wheel drive and it was ok, but I was glad I had recently gotten new tires. If you're looking for a peaceful place to be with yourself, I would recommend this cabin. It's a great deal and I'm confident Dolphin will help your stay to be exactly what you want it to be.

My host, Dolphin, was incredibly welcoming, engaging, informative and made me feel a part of the small mountain top community. Dolphin and I had a telephone conversation prior to my trip to discuss all logistics and he directed me to a very precise map of how to get there. 4-wheel drive vehicle is best suited for the terrain. The cabin is exactly as described in the listing. It is supplied with everything that you need for an extended stay or retreat. I cooked all of my meals in the cabin for 3 weeks. The surroundings are absolutely perfect for a silent meditation retreat which was my purpose. It sits in the middle of a mountaintop forest in the Shasta Trinity mountains. It is so quiet that you could hear a pin drop were it not for the birds, the squirrels, the buzzing of insects and the beautiful music coming from the glorious wind chime just outside the cabin. Nature at its best. For me, the power of the land was palpable. Everything was meticulously clean and arranged for. I was also extended the courtesy of having someone (James-who was amazing) pick up groceries and do my laundry in town (for a nominal fee) as I did not want to be interrupted during the silent retreat. Dolphin took such good care of me I felt as if he was extending the kind of care and attention that would be given to an infant. I mean that in the best possible way as it completely supported the efforts of my intensive 3-week solo meditation retreat. I highly recommend Heart Retreat Cabin for anyone who is doing a serious spiritual practice or just wants to be alone in nature and reflect. The views in all directions including the outside shower were spectacular! Personally, I will return as soon as possible.

My family and I stayed at Heart Cabin for 5 weeks. Dolphin maintains a very welcoming space up here, and everything about it is very flexible. We were traveling with myself, my husband, our two dogs, a cockatiel, and our 2 year old daughter - and we stayed in this beautiful one room cabin for that amount of time. All other places of would have not allowed us to stay in this small space, or charged extra fees - not Dolphin and his family. I feel as though we were guided to this place at our time in transition. There's one room, but it's well laid out with many surfaces for working, writing, sitting, cooking, and sleeping. I run an active blog, but have no fear, there's some how a full verizon signal in these woods and no where else. If you don't have verizon service, be sure to stop at a walmart or verizon store before arrival to acquire a prepaid phone and mobile jetpack for internet. This place is entirely self sufficient, water comes from wells and electricity is solar. Showers and bathrooms are outdoors, there is indoor running water at the sink and indoor electricity, though limited. Showers are heated via solar, and are hottest at 2-3pm. The shower area overlooks a huge valley, and is just beautiful. Though, this place may not be for you if you require daily showers and bathing - not because you can't, but out of respect for the other guests needing hot water too, and the limited ground water during a drought. Electricity is solar, so it has it's limits. We found that it went out daily, from about 10-noon and returned around 4-6pm. Which was mostly fine, just be sure to charge your electronics in the morning if you need them during the day. You are never scolded or warned for your electricity or water use, just be conscientious. There are weekly campfires/potlucks on thursday or sundays that occur at the common area just across the way from heart cabin, where dishes and drinks are shared, and poetry is read - either personal, or from treasured books. This place is very serene and peaceful, and somehow it's a time warp, where days just pass and you have no idea how. I guess that's what happens in the woods 50 minutes from town. Dolphin does host WWOOFers, members of a volunteer org that work on the property in exchange for lodging, and we interacted with many on our stay and they were all polite, friendly, and wonderful people. If you prefer more solitude, just let them know upon arrival, and that wish is taken seriously and respected. Dolphin is a beautiful soul, as is his property and all cabins on it. This place is affordable and welcoming, but most of all, healing. For 30 years, Dolphin has held the space as such - and it remains that way today. Overall - I love it and hope to return!

A life-nourishing stay! I am having trouble putting into words how important this place and the host Dolphin are to us now. My husband and I booked Silver Springs Mountain Retreat to get fully away from the world to read, meditate, detox and make some important life decisions. Dolphin made this all possible. He went out of his way so many times to make sure we had everything we needed, from toothpaste to life advice. He prepared our cabin with such love. It is a wonderful little mountain abode where we enjoyed cooking all our meals, chopping wood, watering the flowers and taking naps. Importantly, the bookshelf is packed full of wonderful reads, there is lovely spot to eat lunch outside and your own space among the trees to meditate. The solar-heated showers that overlook endless pine forests are incredibly scenic and freeing and so good after hiking through the completely deserted mountains surrounding the property. We miss the hut and Dolphin. If you need real space to write, to look inward and to stop rushing this is the spot.
