If we could give the mara explorers camp 10 stars, we would! The camp is located perfectly close to the park, it's clean and neat and cared for with a lot of love. The staff could not be any more friendly, both the ones working directly at the camp and the Masai doing tours. Here you feel like you actually get value for your tourist's money.

Many people go to the Mara to see the animals, but what really sticks with you are the people. Laura, Moses and their staff are a series of amazing people. They began this camp as a means to provide inexpensive lodging to visitors but have made a huge impact on the community. They not only employ several people from the surrounding Maasai villages, but also sponsor students to go to school and help pay for an entire school's food for the year. They are incredibly generous and incredibly modest about what they do. They provide visitors with an opportunity to not only see the Mara but to make a positive impact on the are The camp itself is very simple. Rooms are as pictured, clean with beds, and outdoor showers and pit toilets. The camp, while surrounded by picturesque wilderness, is very safe and has night security for any animals that may come along. They provide way too much amazing food for all three meals (do not plan to lose weight!) and a bar to visit with the locals and other guests at night. With all the food and amenities included, staying at the Mara Explorers camp is a steal. Laura and Moses can provide you with reasonable transportation and activities during the day. They are incredibly helpful and responsive to all of your questions. The highlight of my trip was going with Jackson to his home village, having the men and women of the village dance and sing for us, and even visiting a Boma. Even better was the chance to visit a local school. The kids were amazing and so curious and welcoming. Everyone speaks pretty good english, so its very easy to communicate. One thing that I would suggest packing for your visit are things to bring to the school such as pencils, notebooks, soccer balls and the like. While it is not at all expected, it is one thing I wish I could have brought for the students. They are amazing. I would also suggest brining a few photos from home to spark some conversations. If you want more information, their website is (URL HIDDEN) Laura is really wonderful about emailing, but realize that there is no wifi service available in this area of the country, so she does it all on her phone. Again, I cannot state enough how much we enjoyed our stay. Wishing I was there again now....

Laura, originally from England and Moses from Nairobi met in 2010 whilst both working as overland tour leaders on campings safaris between Nairobi and Cape Town in South Africa.
In 2011 we decided to put the best of our Kenyan and British cultures together and moved to Maasai Mara to set up Mara Explorers Camp from scratch. Our concept was to create a fun and friendly environment for adventure travellers to be able to come and relax and enjoy the Maasai Mara and all the activities it has to offer without breaking the bank. Our camp land is leased from the local Maasai who benefit greatly from the income of the camp along with the community work and student sponsorship which everyone within the camp is committed to.
Despite also running our safari company we still love to travel and explore new places when we get the time and our long term aim is to expand our concept of Mara Explorers Camp into other areas of Kenya!
