The cottage is ancient and offers guests the chance to 'step back in time'. You will need to love pets, as our 23 year old Tabby cat 'Scampi' lives in Myn Mawr during the summer months and we ask guests to be kind to her and feed her from the food provided.
Expereince collecting your own firewood from the mountain, completely natural and organic, this is no luxury cottage and this adds to its charm. At any time, you will see wild goats, birds of prey circling overhead; the robin at the window of the crog loft bedroom.
It is as though one actually becomes one with the mountain, yet the village of Llanberis is only 2.5 miles down the road, as it winds its way to the magnificent Llyn Padarn.
The cottage is a traditional Welsh mountain cottage, approx. 200 years old, yet completely unspoiled. It has been the inspiration for numerous poets and artists, and was written about in the acclaimed novel 'I Bought a Mountain'. It is a place of unparalleled beauty and complete tranquility.
The British 1953 Everest Expedition trained in the area, and were based less than half a mile from the cottage at The Pen-y-Gwyrd which is at the Eastern end of the Llanberis Pass.

Living room with wood burner, kitchen, basic bathroom facilities, double crog loft bedroom, garden, mountains, river & waterfall to the rear of the cottage. You will have the cottage all to yourselves, and we trust you will respect it, and be as happy during your visit as we are when we come home for our visits! It is the most beautiful experience and we never ever tire of the sheer beauty and ancient magic the mountains exude. Even when it rains, it is cosy and delightful.
The cottage is clean but can be a little dusty, due to its positioning on the mountain. It is not 'squeaky clean' - It is a home and has a lovely authentic ambience so please bear this in mind when booking. It is not a sterile bed & breakfast. It is utterly unique. Please note: Towels are not provided.

We will exchange telephone numbers & email to ensure guests have all they need. A friend does the housekeeping and is only minutes away if needed.
You will have complete privacy during your stay.
Please note that Myn Mawr is listed on other sites and when not occupied by AirBnB guests, either ourselves or other guests will be staying there.

Lovely little village pub with open fires, folk music nights & great food just 5 minutes walk, yet the atmosphere at the cottage is one of complete tranquility; astonishing beauty and a true sense of peace. At night the soothing sound of the river will lull you to sleep.
Perfect for romantic weekends, hiking, climbing or chilling out. Truly, an idyllic little cottage set in the magnificent Snowdonia National Park.

A car is essential. The Snowdon Sherpa runs from the bus stop at the bottom but a car is better.
There is a drivable track all the way to the cottage. It is wise to walk the track first before driving as it can be narrow in parts. One can walk or drive up the path. Its up to you!
Walking is the best way to truly appreciate the sublime savage beauty of the area. Countless rivulets of mountain springs will refresh you along the way, wherever you choose to wander.

The cottage is basic, beautiful, but not luxurious.
Guests need to be prepared to 'rough it'. The winds can gust and weather changes can occur quickly, though this adds to its charm as one is part of the entire experience.
A mountain cottage is unlike any other type of house. The walls of the cottage are deep and rugged to offer shelter from its exposed (URL HIDDEN) is part of the mountain and one truly experiences nature when in the cottage. The area has its own 'micro climate' as it is surrounded totally by the majestic mountains.

The cottage is basic, beautiful, but not luxurious. There is no shower in the bathroom, for example, for this would be totally out of character in an 18th century mountain cottage. The bath is an antique roll-top. 'Myn Mawr' is authentically rustic and utterly beautiful.

The description from Jacky and other reviewers is very accurate - this is a very basic cottage with no hot water. But as long as you know that then I guarantee you will fall in love with this cottage. No words can describe the location and views. After climbing to the summit of the mountain there is nothing more welcoming than coming back to this little home, starting up a fire and relaxing with the only neighbors being sheep - everywhere! Oh, and yes, the resident cat, happy to fall asleep on your lap as soon as you sit down.

THERE IS HOT WATER!!! - I don't think you read the manual that was on the kitchen table. The immersion heater for the hot water is in the bathroom. I am glad you enjoyed your stay but this is totally inaccurate because we lived in Myn Mawr full-time for 25 years and enjoyed baths in the roll top bath.

This is a perfect spot in the mountains for a hardy couple in search of a mountain adventure. When the sun was shining the views were spectacular and the sheep picturesque. Unfortunately, it rained and we spent most of our time trying to stay warm. It's a happy memory for us and we appreciated Jacky's hospitality and her book of things to see and do. We enjoyed the train ride around the lake in Llanberis as well as our trip to Anglesey.

We appreciated how close this house was to Snowdon as our main purpose for travel to this area was to hike the horseshoe trail at Snowdonia. It was also very drivable to Caernarfon and Anglesey- two areas we also enjoyed visiting during our trip to this area. The cottage provided a very unique and authentic stay in this area and we really enjoyed the hike up the mountain behind the cottage. The one inconvenience was that bath towels were not provided. As the listing mentions, driveway was also very challenging to get up with a near inch on either side of the car with the mirrors folded in. After our first attempt up the driveway, we chose to park at the end to prevent damage to our rental.

Fantastic place. The driveway is a bit tight and was really tough to get up, but other than that it was a perfect stay and just what we wanted.

Fantastic location and lovely historic home! We had a great time hiking up the trail behind the cottage. The home feels very authentic and homey. We had a great time! And Scampy the cat felt like part of the family!!
