"Vila Floreal" – the true tropical lifestyle. Pls see reviews
VILA FLOREAL offers guests the chance to enjoy a unique residence in Rio de Janeiro: more than a residence, in fact it's a lifestyle choice – to live a tropical dream come true...
The house is huge, light, well-ventilated and all newly refurbished – finished in wood (floorboards and panelled-ceilings), natural stone and plate-glass throughout.
Best of all is the location: a beautiful, quiet, historical and safe street just a stone's throw from the heart of Santa Teresa 'village' – with its shops, bars, restaurants and even cinema, plus public transport links and taxis.
More, the house is finely furnished with many repurposed antiques and original artworks – there's even a piano!
As well as the huge living/dining room there are 3 double bedrooms (1 queen-bed), 3 bathrooms and 2 spacious terraces with stunning views (and BBQ); also a front-garden, hammocks and deckchairs, music and TV, super-fast wifi –
and our priceless silence and tranquility, broken only by birdsong...
The fully-equipped kitchen leads onto a covered outside terrace, to breakfast and/or cocktail with fabulous views, in the shade of our majestic 100-year old mango-tree.
VILA FLOREAL is the perfect base for enjoying all the very best this Marvellous City has to offer!
The house has independent access direct from the street, a no-through-road with only local traffic (and almost no noise).
The single entrance to, and exit from, the street has a 24-hr watchman system for residents' security.
Guests at VILA FLOREAL always have the house completely to themselves, including private garden and terraces.
Rua Triunfo is arguably the best location in Santa Teresa; and Santa Teresa is certainly one of the friendliest neighbourhoods in Rio, a place where it's easy to get to know the locals in famous hangouts like Bar do Mineiro or Gomes Bar (both just a short walk away).
The Hotel Santa Teresa is also just around a couple of corners, as are rated restaurants Espirito Santa and Aprazivel.
And Santa Teresa also has its own special Carnival scene, with some of the city's best street-blocks such as "Céu na Terra" ('Heaven on Earth' – which sums it all up, really!!).
The hosts live right next door in an adjoining property – and we are available as much, or as little, as guests prefer.
After 25 years in Rio, we can certainly help with tips and recommendations to help make your stay the best possible experience. Don't hesitate to ask!
There's a great collection of Brazilian music CD's in the house so guests can get up to speed on the best of samba, choro, tropicália, bossa nova, forró, Brazilian rock and reggae, and so many other of our fabulous rhythms.
There's also a collection of illustrated books on the history of photography in Rio and Brazil, to offer a rich visual record of the Marvellous City of the past – which is the inspiration for "Vila Floreal".
The house will be thoroughly cleaned before your arrival, and also after you leave; for longer stays extra cleaning services can be arranged upon request.
BREAKING NEWS: we have just installed a SOLAR-POWERED hot water system to the showers! (August 2016)

I've lived in Rio for 25 years. For the first dozen I lived on the Selaron Steps (in the photo) – at the foot of Santa Teresa, on the border with Lapa, where I was a close friend of Selarón himself, and very happy: it's such a fantastic and convenient location.
Now I live a bit further up the hillside – where the view is glorious, the air clean and cool and the city dangles tantalisingly below...
I built my own house there, and also two more next-door! We call this private paradise 'Vila Floreal' – a tropical dream come true.
I adore my city and especially my neighbourhood, Santa Teresa – I recommend you check it out, I'm sure you won't be disappointed!
