A traditional croft house in the Shetland Islands, Scotland, artfully furnished with a mix of old and new things. Full of character and only 200 m from a beautiful beach in a picturesque, rural setting. Great for four people in summer or winter.
A cosy getaway for up to four people in a quiet, rural location in the far north of Scotland. The house is well-equipped and beautifully furnished. It's an old house, so don't expect perfection or glossy finishes. Do expect lots of style, character and charm.
There's a large double bedroom with comfortable double bed, plus a small bunkroom with bunkbeds and curtain across doorway. Cosy sitting room with stove and tv. Large bright dining kitchen with washing machine. Bathroom with large old bath and electric shower over.
The house has oil-fired central heating with radiators, as well as the stove.
We normally let the house by the week, especially in summer. We can offer shorter lets out of season and for last minute bookings. If you wish to book less than 7 nights, please get in touch and we will do our best to help.
The whole house, garden and shed are yours while you're here. There's parking outside for two cars. You can hang your washing out on the line, but make sure you use enough pegs or it could blow away!
I will not be there but our housekeeper, Lisa, may call round to see you and check that you have everything you need.
We provide one basket of logs and one basket of peat for your use included in the cost. We advise you buy extra bags in Lerwick before you arrive at the house if you think you'll want to huddle round the stove a lot.
Mobile phone reception is variable in the house, but that means you can really switch off. If you can't do without the phone, lean into the window in the bedroom, or sit in your car and you'll get a signal.
Make yourself at home and enjoy your stay!
Please do not smoke in the house.
Please respect our neighbours' privacy and peace. If out walking, please follow fence lines and paths.
Please leave the house clean and tidy as this helps at changeover time. Please report any breakages so we can replace items.
Dogs are welcome by arrangement but must be kept on leads anywhere near sheep - there are a lot of sheep - and kept off the furniture in the house.
I work in heritage and develop new uses for redundant historic buildings. I love old buildings, especially modest traditional ones with lots of character that haven't been over restored! I love interior decorating and have created two or three interiors already, including this one. I love Scandinavian style and always borrow from it in what I do.
I like remote places that are rugged and windswept, like the west coast of Scotland where my husband and I enjoy camping and swimming in the sea. I also love rural France, with its old villages and wonderful food.
My house in Shetland is a great place to escape - to write or paint, cosy-up in front of the fire with a good book, or enjoy the amazing scenery and wildlife. I love spending time there to recharge, every year. I take photographs of the landscape and develop these into paintings when I get back home - I'm just starting out in this direction and find it inspiring.
