Cozy 2-storey 2400 sf home on a 1.5 acre semi-wooded property on the East bank of the St. Johns River 17 miles south of Jacksonville and about 30 miles to the northwest of Saint Augustine. Property has a dock, and a swimming pool with a poolhouse.
You will find this unique vacation home at the end of a long private unpaved wooded country lane. The River House is not a glitz and glam home, but a prop your feet up and relax kind of place. The house is 30 + years old, but lovingly remodeled, roomy and a great place to vacation with family or friends. It is centrally located only 30 minutes from Jacksonville, St. Augustine and the beaches. The River House is nestled on a 1-1/2 acre private setting along the St. Johns River.
The home is surrounded by large oaks and palm trees that give it a tropical feel. Peaceful & relaxing, all the elements for the best vacation you could imagine are here. A concrete walkway takes you through the yard to a 300 ft dock (100m) with an upper level. Sweeping view's of the St. Johns River where you can watch manatee's, eagles, herons and spectacular sunsets from this unique vantage point. A pair of bald eagles frequent this area. They are a spectacular sight to see. Pods of manatee are a frequent sight around the dock from spring to early fall. There is a 12' canoe for your use, you can paddle along the river bank to view nature up close in the canoe. Water depth are very shallow, 12" - 24", until you reach the end of the dock. Alpine Park is a 54 acre riverfront park 1 mile north of us. It has historic buildings, walking and jogging trails, children's playground and a dock.
This home has an open floor plan with the large kitchen, living room/ dining room with lots of natural light and wonderful garden, pool and river views. You can watch the kids playing in the pool or yard while you are in the kitchen. There is almost always something in bloom. Orange, lime and lemon tree's offer fresh fruit certain times of the year.The private pool (NOT HEATED) with seating and jets is perfect in the summer for sipping your evening cocktail while the steaks are on the grill. The pool has a waterfall that is soothing to hear while you are outside.The pool cabana is convenient for outdoor relaxation with it's own mini fridge, stereo, outdoor bathrooms, ceiling fans, comfortable seating and charcoal grill.
Inside the home features 4 bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms upstairs: One bedroom (master) with a full/shower bath, another with a queen bed, the third bedroom has twin beds which can be pushed together to make a king, and a fourth bedroom which is in a dormer and has a single twin sized bed. **The twin and dormer bedrooms are VERY small and perfect kids rooms. The upstairs bathrooms are also very small. Again, this is not a glamours home, just very casual and comfortable. The queen bedroom and 2 kids bedroom share one tiny bathroom.**Please note that all the bedrooms are UPSTAIRS. * The bathrooms are full baths, very small but they have everything you need, two are upstairs, and one is downstairs with a Jacuzzi tub. A separate den with a fireplace, a living room, large kitchen, dining room/family room, laundry room, screen porch and bathroom are downstairs. Outdoors we have a large yard, a children's playground and a river overlook complete with chairs.
This home is relaxed and casual. You will feel yourself relax the minute you walk in the door. It's great to watch the spectacular sunsets in the evenings. This is a very nice and safe area and also close to grocery stores, shopping and restaurants. Bob and Lori live in the garage apartment next door to the River House. It is completely private from the main house. We are very conscious of the privacy of our guests. We want you to feel as if this is your home away from home, enjoy and have fun. If you are looking for a low key, relaxing place within easy distance to everything else, this is your place.
Guest have access to the entire house, yard, cabana and dock. The shed down by the river is not accessible to guests. Please note: no access to the garage or the garage apartment, or storage room between main house and garage. The garage apartment has a separate entrance and is separate from the main house.
We respect your privacy while you are here, but we are happy to answer any questions or help in any way. We are friendly but will stay to ourselves other than clean the pool and patio maintnence if needed. If you need anything or have a problem we are usually next door but if we're not there, then we're just a phone call away.
Please note that our drive way is not paved and in heavy rainy weather can have water puddles and becomes muddy. This usually dissipates in a day or two.
Please NO smoking indoors.
Cancellation policy: full rent due 30 days prior to arrival and 50% refund if cancellation is before 2 weeks prior to reservation date. $300 security deposit must accompany reservation and is refundable if cancellation is more than 30 days prior to reservation date.
The home must be left in a neat and orderly condition upon departure. Anything broken due to misuse or carelessness must be replaced and any charges are responsibility of the guest. We expect our guest to be responsible, observe normal 'quiet' hours and no loud rowdy behavior.
We do not allow any pets.

Semi-retired married couple with three grown children and seven grandchildren. We enjoy the outdoors, travel, family and friends. Good food, music and conversation. We have a cat that lives with us. Lori and Bob live in the adjacent garage apartment and can answer any questions that you may have.
