Enjoy the beauty of the Southwest using the delightful Stewart-Woolley House Bed and Breakfast as your home away from home!

This home is steeped in history.

Constructed of Kanab double brick in 1872, by Levi Stewart, the first Mormon Bishop of Kanab, the home was later purchased by Edwin Dilworth Woolley in 1889, and he was the first person to promote tourism in southern Utah. Mr. Woolley's daughter, Mary Woolley Chamberlain, became the first female mayor with an all woman council in 1912, the first such occurrence in the history of the United States. The home was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on April 6, 2001.

Relax, rest, and dine in the very home where several notable people have done the same ... Buffalo Bill Cody, wild west showman; Zane Grey, novelist; Harrison "Jack" Schmitt, Apollo 17 astronaut; Brigham Young, American pioneer and leader of the LDS church; and Benjamin Cluff Jr., explorer and first president of Brigham Young University.

In the pioneer period, the home was across the street from the old town square. Located in a quiet neighborhood, just one block from downtown, many attractions and fine restaurants are within a casual stroll.

Kanab is the home of Best Friends Animal Society, the nation's largest no-kill animal sanctuary in the nation. Droves of volunteers and visitors continually visit this pet-lovers haven, located just six miles north of town.

Three national parks are within a short distance of "home." Zion N.P. - 40 miles; Bryce Canyon N.P. - 77 miles; and Grand Canyon N.P. (north rim) - 78 miles. Additionally, the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument provides countless wilderness hiking opportunities.

Both Jeanne and Steve are avid hikers, so if you want some tips on hiking in the area, they will happily share their experiences and expertise. In addition to hiking many of the trails in Zion, Bryce, and the Grand Canyon, they have done the same in other spectacular nearby regions. See our photos.

Two private air-conditioned upstairs bedrooms - each newly carpeted and each with its own bathroom with shower - are available for our guests. Just off the head of the stairway, adjacent to each bedroom is a cozy parlor with a couch, chairs, small refrigerator with wet bar, and television.

In addition to the privacy of your own room and shared use of the parlor, our guests are free to enjoy the pleasant living and dining rooms.

THE BUFFALO BILL ROOM: (for this Air B&B listing, this is designated as ... Room 1)
You will be greeted by the morning's rising sun! If you want a better look, walk out onto the small sleeping porch (balcony) that opens off the bedroom. The double bed is tucked into the 166 sq. ft. L-shaped room, with the attached bathroom, with shower, off the other end of the "L." WIFI is included.

THE BRIGHAM YOUNG ROOM: (to reserve this room, go to the listing designated as "Stewart Woolley House B&B (Room 2)."
This 159 sq. ft. room features two twin size beds. It too has a small sleeping porch (balcony) where you can watch the evening sun drop over the red cliffs. The room includes its own attached bathroom, with shower. WIFI is included.

BREAKFAST:
Breakfast will be served with a flexible schedule to accommodate the wishes of our guests. Our menu will vary each day, but if there's something you'd especially like, just ask us ... we're easy! French toast, pancakes, omelets, and quiche are our mainstays. Sides include sausage or bacon; juice and fruit. Ask about our personal favorites: Jeanne's vegetable omelet, Steve's yogurt-fruit topping, or our "team best" ... honey craisin bread!

WHISKERS and BEAUTY:
Please know, there are two old ladies living with us ... actually two cats! They're shy and tend to hide when strangers are around, but if you have a cat allergy, please be advised. We do not allow our guests to bring their pets.

การสื่อสารกับผู้เข้าพัก

Certainly we enjoy interacting with our guests over breakfast, and while we love to visit with all our guests throughout their visit, we foremost respect their privacy.

สิ่งอื่นที่ควรรู้

During the summer months the days can be very hot, at times over 100 degrees F (38 C) but the nights are always cool, typically into the mid-50s (13 C) making for pleasant open-window sleeping if one wishes.

We have declined to list "house rules." We prefer to simply ask our guests to be calm, cool, and collected! Very simply, respect our home as you would your own. There is NO SMOKING on the premises. NO PETS allowed. We love all animals, but our two cats are fussy.

NOTE: Whereas we are planning to move back to the Midwest, our home is for sale. If you are interested, please contact Lynette at ERA Realty in Kanab, UT.

Jeanne and Steve provided me a home away from home. They are so welcoming, genuine and friendly! I was in town for the Zion half marathon and for some hiking adventures. They got up at 4am on my race day and made me breakfast and sent me on my way with coffee and snacks! They provided me with numerous hiking options, gave expert directions and provided insights on the best places to eat around town. They are great people with a warm cozy home and are excellent cooks. If you are considering staying here, book it NOW before your dates get scooped up by someone else!

Michelle and I felt as though we were part of the family. Steve and Jeanne are wonderful people and a pleasure to interact with. I loved learning about the history of their home. They are rich with data related to the surrounding area and willing to provide suggestions or even call and make a dinner reservation for you. The room and bathroom were comfortable and useful in every way. Breakfast was wonderful. I cannot imagine a better place to stay in Kanab. They made our stay perfect. We will stay here again when we return.

Jeanne and Steve were great. We didn't know that Arizona (where we were driving from) did not observe daylight savings (URL HIDDEN) it really made a difference with our arrival. Steve waited up for us and showed us around. The house and the room were great. We left early in the morning and they made us a breakfast to go.. we both wish that we could have stayed longer to chat with the two. Definitely recommend this place for anyone looking for a place near the North Rim Grand Canyon or do some great hiking in Utah.

We had a wonderful time with Jeanne and Steve! They were so hospitable and welcoming, despite our same-day, last-minute reservation. The home is beautiful, and our favorite part was talking with our hosts over the (delicious!) breakfast they provide in the morning. It's about an hour between Zion and the Grand Canyon (a little over an hour) and Kanab was a fun town for us to call a home base while we explored the beautiful parks the region has to offer. We've stayed at many Airbnb listings all over the world, and Steve and Jeanne are the epitome of Superhosts, and what Airbnb is all about. We wouldn't hesitate to return, and would encourage anyone to stay with them. Thank you again for such a wonderful experience!

We had such a wonderful stay with Jeanne and Steve! They were great hosts and such an inspiration. Our breakfast was not only delicious but very fun! We chatted about their past, hearing stories about all of their adventures and geeking out over stories about The Cray. They are great hosts and my only wish was that we had more time to enjoy their place and company. Thanks again and hope to see you one day soon :)

Jeanne and Steve are the epitome of why I like Airbnb over hotels. First of all we got to stay in an amazing historic house. I believe Jeanne and Steve said it was the first built in the entire town! It was absolutely beautiful there and the history behind it all was fascinating. Then of course, Jeanne and Steve were probably the best hosts I've ever had. They gave us great tips for hikes in the area and places to go for food/for a beer. They made us a delicious pancake breakfast in the morning and took a great interest in our lives. Such wonderful people with big hearts. I'd go back in a second. I didn't get nearly enough time there! Thanks for everything!!

You couldn't find a better place and better people to stay with than with Jeanne and Steve. Not only are they very knowledgable about the area, but they are some of the sweetest people you will meet. If you want to explore their your people, and if you want to relax and soak in the cute town of Kanab... they are your people too. The home is beautifully historical, yet feels so welcoming and comfortable that you don't feel like you are staying at a museum. Consider it more like going back in time, with some modern amenities of course ;) To sum it up. You can't go wrong here. Wonderful people, wonderful place to stay, and wonderful area.

Greetings from Jeanne and Steve ... Wisconsin transplants! We're an active, fun loving, and friendly couple, and we love to assure our guests enjoy a wonderful visit in our historic home and glorious southern Utah and northern Arizona. We've done extensive hiking in each of the three nearby national parks, but we have spent more time hiking in the remote and beautiful back country wilderness of the region. As such, we can provide first hand tips on how to best enjoy your vacation experience.
