Booking suggestions: Please be sure to read the listing before booking, which lists a private bedroom, and shared bathroom (the host showers in this bathroom). The listing also details shared living spaces, including family room, dining room and kitchen. Description included: "Private bedroom with queen bed, closet, and shared household full bathroom." The "bathroom" icon lists shared.
Room A is rented out often to business travelers or students, with an occasional tourist. Socialization requires two parties to be involved. Most of the time guests keep to themselves, which is usually a positive for most people and reduces unwanted topics of conversation. Rm A has a private bath and living area so interaction may be limited with these guests in common spaces except the kitchen or entry ways during certain times. Some guests may prefer a quiet interaction, some may prefer more interaction, but this is a personal preference. With this guest the host was found to be starting almost all of the conversations, which were limited, so the complaint about no conversations is likely to be an issue with guests who are not frequent to strike up a conversation. Often times I never see some guests for several days straight - so a guest like this reviewer who intends to "live" full time in the home, may indeed find another guest who rarely shows themselves to be awkward.
The renting expectation is one private room for this listing. Guests are welcome to share other rooms, including with the host and the host's significant other who may stay a few times a week (as of April).
Bathroom Complaint: This is a shared bathroom, as listed, and there is an above complaint about a toilet not being flushed once. As a shared bathroom, even though there was no damage by this guest, the bathroom was generally left in disarray (dirty clothes, personal items laid in inconvenient locations) by the guest for a shared space. Considering the guests left dishes in the living room, left bathroom fans on all night, lights on all night, dishes that were "clean" were not clean and the host frequently re-washed dishes, etc, the complaint seems hypocritical at best and likely unwarranted. Sometimes the host would ask if the guests needed the shower any time soon, as the host intends to use it -- so the presentation that the host was using the bathroom without the guests' knowledge is unfounded. The guest was likely more interested in a studio apartment style location with a much higher price, but booked a private bedroom in a shared home instead, which also would have cost the guest 2-3x monthly rent elsewhere, with a long term contract.
I would encourage reading other reviews for this host and note that this location has had two bedrooms rented out for approximately 7 months straight with one sub-5 star review which is likely due to not reading the listing fully about shared spaces.
Guests looking for a quiet, inexpensive long-term stay are absolutely welcome. Guests looking to have exclusive access to the entire house will need to find an appropriate listing to do so.
