The Barn is self-contained and recently refurbished, with beautiful views over the Kent countryside. Only 10 minutes' drive from Sevenoaks and its station, yet located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and close to several National Trust properties. The Barn offers wifi, a fully equipped kitchen, use of a tennis court and even fresh eggs from our chickens next door.
Please follow us on Instagram for up to date local events and more info @thebarnsealchart.
The Barn is a separate building in the grounds of our family home and is completely detached. With its own private front door and downstairs hallway, the flat is situated on the first floor of our Barn (there is a car port and separate garage below) and is accessed by stairs. There are views out over our garden from all the windows, and whilst there is no separate outside space, we have a tennis court available for use, again on request.
The Barn is fully furnished, with a fully equipped kitchen including oven, induction hob, dishwasher, washing machine/dryer, Nespresso coffee machine, fridge and freezer. There is a seating area in the kitchen which seats up to 4. In the living area, there is a large sofa and chair, a 34 inch flat screen TV with DVD player and Freeview channels, Bowers & Wilkins speaker dock and also a window seat with lovely views over the garden.
The bedroom is accessed via a sliding door off the living area. It has a large chest of drawers, small wardrobe with hanging rail and an armchair. (Please note this is a restricted height wardrobe as it is built into the eaves). The queen double bed is furnished with Egyptian cotton sheets and duck down pillows and duvet. There is also a digital radio for your use.
The sofa in the lounge is a very comfortable double sofa bed - if you would like additional bed linen, this is available on request for a small additional charge.
The bathroom is accessed through the bedroom, and comprises a walk-in large power shower, loo and basin, with a large LED lit mirror. High quality towels are provided and there is a storage shelving unit for toiletries.
In the entrance hall there is a large radiator, plus bench and hooks for coats and wellies. In the cupboard under the stairs you will find an iron, ironing board and vacuum cleaner.
Please also note that superfast broadband has not arrived here yet - as such the wifi speeds are not ideal for streaming or downloading films.
As well as the sofa bed in the living area, we do have the following available on request for families travelling with children:
- a child’s single bed, a cot bed and/or a travel cot
- kids’ cutlery and crockery
- high chair
- box of toys
Please note that the stairs to the living area are open and for those travelling with toddlers/young children a stair gate can be fitted on request. There is an additional fee of £10 per booking for childrens' bedding/facilities, and we would ask for 2 days’ notice if you would like any of the above, thank you.
There is an outdoor hard court tennis court on the grounds, which is available for use on request.
There is parking for one car immediately outside the entrance (parking for any additional cars is on request).
As mentioned above, we live on the grounds in the house next door, and share the parking area. The Barn is adjacent to the parking area and is situated over our car port.
We always try our best to meet you personally and show you around, and are available for any questions or help needed by text or email, and have provided leaflets in the Barn with information on local tourist attractions. However, we respect our guests' privacy so you won't be disturbed.
We have chickens, a dog and a cat who are frequently in the garden.
We are about 10 minutes' drive from Sevenoaks, a vibrant town with a busy high street, plus plenty of restaurants and gastro pubs. We have a number of National Trust sites on our doorstep, including Ightham Mote (less than 5 minutes' drive) and Knole Park, with its historic house and 1,000 acre deer park. Hever Castle, Leeds Castle and Chartwell are around 20 minutes' drive away. From the house, you can walk to Oldbury Woods, an Iron Age National Trust protected woodland, and also access a number of local walks nearby, some with pubs en route. 30 minutes' away is the beautiful market town of Tunbridge Wells, and 45 minutes' drive is the Kent Coast, including Whitstable and Herne Bay. We have a beautiful 19th Century church 1/2 mile away which is worth a visit, and several good pubs within a 5-10 minute drive. On Thursday mornings there is a farmers' market in nearby Shipbourne.
- We have neighbours just across the road from the barn, and we would ask that you are respectful of this. No shoes upstairs please.
Can frequently be found pottering in my veg patch, whilst keeping an eye on various animals, including my children, cat, dog and chickens. I also try to read, play bad tennis and go for the odd run, and like to escape into London to the theatre when I can.
We have lived in various places before settling in Kent, including Russia and Singapore as well as London for many years.
