Located in the heart of Eastern North Carolina just outside the town of Goldsboro, this house, guests say, is a destination in itself. When you see it, you will understand why it is an historically significant gem. It brief, it blends the ambiance of a comfortable European country estate with interior architecture from an early 19th century plantation house.
This first floor twin bedroom is completely private and self-contained, with separate entrance and amenities. This bedroom has a private dressing area and bathroom with large bathtub (and handheld shower nozzle.) Sliding glass doors lead to a deck that overlooks a fenced garden and pine forest.
Guests in this room have access to the spaces in the common area which include the fully equipped galley kitchen with small dining table for four people and the large "front parlor" ( see photo and description below.) Upstairs is the lounge/library equipped with Wi-Fi, flat screen TV,and DVD. There’s also a small corner office area with a large glass desk and screen for privacy.
The main room in the guest wing is the living room or "front parlor" featuring 12 foot ceilings and a spectacular, elaborate, hand-carved mantel. All of the interior architecture, including the heart of pine flooring, was removed from Vernon Hall (ca. 1819) a plantation house that once stood on the banks of the nearby Neuse River. Described by one architectural historian as the “most unusual room in the South,” the parlor's focal point is the immense fireplace with unique designs carved by enslaved artisans that have been featured in Winterthur Magazine. This spacious historic parlor is ideal for enjoying a glass or wine, "bourbon and branch" or other cocktail; it's also perfect for just reading and relaxing; or, for small gatherings such as receptions, discussion groups, showers, etc. In fact, every imaginable celebration has been held in the parlor for going on two centuries!
